Nothing to be scared of, the bike will wanna stay upright at anything over about 10mph anyway and its a goo skill to have. Try it on a road you know well and just take the weight off one of your hands a bit...but DONT apply more pressure to the other hand when doing so. and you'll see the bike is unaffected.
As you get more confident move your hand away from the grip altogether....obviously best to use you clutch hand for this othersiw you'll slow down pretty quickly.

Anyway, derail over, but it is a good skill to have ;)

Power Ranger - Full set of flashy pristine leathers with matching boots , gloves and lid
Brain Bucket - Helmet
Gutter Splutter - Scooter or suchlike
Highside - when the bike loses traction and slides as if it is heading for the floor , then grips again flinging you up and over the bike .
Lowside - when the bike loses traction and heads for the floor putting it down onto it`s lowest side

When warning others of the presence of Police and Scamera Vans the preffered method in these parts is a "Thumb Down" .

Another signal for you , when following a rider and they lift their right foot off the peg , it`s usually a signal for you to overtake them , actually only ever seen this the once when I was chasing down a guy on the Nant-Y-garth going to the Ponderosa to meet for the "Barmouth Or Bust" rideout , So I obliged him by whoofing past with no baffles :)
