Seriously,

You need to get out more guy. My missus is a fan and she thoroughly enjoyed it. It's all sci-fi and a bit of entertainment. Nothing more.

I am not a trekkie, but Carol my partner is. I thought that seeing the movie would be nice for her and I could have an ogle at Karl Urban, who is rather lovely at the worst of times. :p

Anyway, Carol cried during the beginning at the birth of Kirk and loved every second :smt089. I thought it was just a typical genre movie with good effects and lots of eye candy.

The best part of the whole thing was the power wheelie Carol pulled on the SV, on the way to the cinema! :smt057

Still a good film and you don't have to be a Trekkie to enjoy it. Not sure it was worth the close to £20 premium seats in Vue though and the £6 bag of pick and mix did rather make us ill! :smt078

Me and Gary skipped there and enjoyed our Orange Wednesday tickets... the Film was fun and enjoyable, and you don't need to be a Trekkie or Trekker or what ever to enjoy it.

Thanks is all.

Keep on reading a little further...it used them once in a pilot which is debated over whether they are pulse cannons or not (there were rather a lot of mistakes admitted to in the first series including using entirely the wrong ship models). They don't fit with the design of the NX class (despite being a smaller ship), the Defiant on the other hand was far smaller than any of the cruiser type ships of its time and far more maneuverable hence the weapon system suited it better. The Sovereign-class (the equivalent to the constitution-class) developed alongside the Defiants and using similar technology didn't use any weapons of this type instead favouring longer range weapons as did the original and refitted Constitution-class vessels.

I still cant agree that the new constitution class imo was nothing like anything in TNG... Cant really argue about that sort of thing but there you have it.
Well you can, it may look similar but have you actually watched either the TOS or TMP era ships recently? If you are genuinely curious this guy puts it better than I could:

http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/ar...se_comment.htm

Much of the ship looks more organic in line with the later era ships (particularly the nacelle pylons) and the size (which apparently is not a scaling error) puts it at over 700m long and bigger than a Galaxy-class which itself was bigger than each of its predecessors. It also means that the other larger ships seen going to Vulcan would be well over a 1km in length dwarfing even the Enterprise-E.

While you may think that guy is worse than me for nitpicking, he is more positive about the film itself with his main complaint being it's no longer Star Trek.

Bridge looks like its in the normal place...
I've only seen the film once but from what I recall the pan at the end showed the bridge right on the front of the outer hull.

Ive had a read and it turns out what were dumped at the end were anti matter containers, not the warp core... but that might be wrong, it might be that they have decided multiple cores beats one big one?
The shapes are closer to antimatter containers certainly but then they wouldn't get the detonation a warp core would give as it's a contained matter-antimatter explosion - both parts are required, if only antimatter was dumped it would be too far diffused due to the gravitational effects of artificial quantum singularity. As for warp cores, they only refer to one although due to them forgetting to put an engineering room there's no further information there.

Well, I went in expecting it to be "so-so" and I was impressed!

Are there any hot girls in this moive in tight outfits?

I do think Star Trek still has a lot to offer, no matter what you think of it it was ground breaking in the 60's and made a difference to the civil right moment at that time. Martin Luther King asked Nichelle Nichols to stay on in the show after she was going to quit. After that meeting she stayed on in the role. It would nice to think, there is a better tomorrow.

I'll probally go to see at some point, the last few trek films have been not so good. First Contact was best one that has been out for ages.

Geeks chill out its all made up, a matter/anti-matter exploxion would produce gamma rays, how that would produce power, however my knowlegde around that is a little out of date now. Not too mention light travels at varying rates of speed;its not constant.
