Go to www.pepipoo.com for real advice. It is possible that they have made a mistake and you can get out of the fine/points, although unlikely.

3 points 60 fine is normal for up to 20 over the limit. pepipoo has a fine/points calculator for X speed in Y limit on the website ( http://forums.pepipoo.com/index.php?showtopic=24748 ). Enforcement is normally from 35, but you can be done for 31. Speedos must over read by up to 10%, so 38 on my speedo is 34-35 real.

Never accept a NIP as set in concrete, how close are you to clocking over the 2year mark? and as asked before did you already have a car licence prior to your motorcycle?
If you've had a car one for 2years+ then it doesnt matter about the 6points becuase the licence was issued over 2 years ago but motorcycle was added as a new catagory.
If neither are 2years old at the moment but say your only 4months from that 2year mark you can drag out the process of accepting the points/fine for 4months no problem. On the 27th day from the date on the NIP post a reply asking for some evidence that the bike in question was actually yours becuase on that day you were riding as a group and it could have been another rider passing you that triggered the scamera.... Read up on Pepipo but I know people who've strung it out long enough to hold on to their licence.

At 38 you should have been offered a course and a fine, but like tim said its dependant on where you were (Darwen in my case).

I feel your pain though i was caught doing 39 in a recently reclassified zone (40 to 30) at 2am in the morning on a clear night. I was a danger to maybe a rabbit n thats it. Only had 2months left for my 2 yrs to be up so it was a ballache following speedlimits to the letter.

Still the side effect is i shoot upto the speed limit then stop there, crazy old man driving at the age of 26!!

Hang in there bud and dont get your license banned or when u get a new pne your insurance will be sky high.

Can you not go on a speed awareness course or were you to far over the limit ,or are they not availiable in you area.

you only get a speed awareness if youve been caught at 35 or less...

Is it your first three points Binky? I got the impression that it is, in which case just keep your nose clean for the next few months and it's cool.

Hope it's not the second three :(

Bad luck mate, you're gonna have to ride really steadily from now on.

But there is a bright side. I'll be able to keep up with you now! ;)

Really bad advice. Points on the license for totting up purposes are taken from date of offence, not conviction.
A response to the S172 (who is driving letter) must be received within 28 days nominating a driver/s or stating not my bike guv.
Asking for a photo to ID on day 27 means you will be charged with failure to comply with S172 and get 6 points + large fine, and if you then id youself you will pick up an extra 3 for the speeding, unless you beg very nicely to the CPS and they decide to drop a charge.

Only my first points on my license.

I only have a bike license and have had it for 1 year 9 months so am not far off the two year time limit.

I got caught by a van that had parked up on the opposite side of the road. It's never been there before...

Thanks for clearing things up for me guys. Now i know where i stand much better. Regarding dragging it out i'll just pay the fine and send of my license.
I'll just have to ride really carefully now. :smt089

P.S. There are no speed awareness courses available in Nottinghamshire.

It is always worth a post to pepipoo, miracles do happen and they do fluff their paperwork up. I assume you must have replied to the S172 to get the Conditional Offer of Fixed Penalty, which means advice will probably be pay up and ride carefully. Just don't do nothing and expect it to go away.
