I am running the New Osram Night Racers. Pretty good, as good if not slighly better than the Philips Extremes.

lol, the initial few seconds..

Do the bulbs last long, do they fit in nicely?

See how easy I am persuaded, lol.

Any recommendations on units? or brands?

can you put car bulbs in a bike? Are they the same design?

Exactly the same.
Glad you've seen the light re HIDs on tlw's recommendation - there's loads of threads but not easy to locate on a 3-letter search.

Ive got a 55w 6000k kit in my car love them and want some for the bike, no hassle simply fit the blulbs which fit in like notmal but they have wires permantly attacthed, find a place for the ballasts to live plug bulbs into ballats the ballasts into the headlight wire hey presto

This is my kit fitted in my car to give you an idea of what they are like

Upgrade bulbs - Philips Extreme Power are easily the best on the market for standard wattage bulbs.

HIDs - no wiring to the battery is required with a decent kit (HIDS4U.co.uk) but you cannot see the road infront of you on a sunny day!

WTF? You can see the road just fine:confused:

And Osram Nightbreakers are brighter than Phillips Extreme, I've had both in the car and neither lasted more than a few months, Halfords own brands are just as bright and lasted much longer for me...

Look into how they work, it takes a larger initial current to strike and balance the arc, once stabilised it draws less power than a regular halogen bulb

As for recommendations, I always use HIDs4u.co.uk - don't know if the discount code "strathy" still works but if it does I think it gives ~20% off now

Apologies, I meant you cannot see the lights illuminating the road infront of you on a sunny day.

I've tested the extremes and nightbreakers with my brothers civic - nightbreakers illuminated 10-11 cats eyes, x-treme powers illuminated 15-16 and the field of vision is much better. Halfords are so expensive its unreal. £11 for a standard H7 bulb!

Halfords are on permanent 2 for 1 offer here, hence no more expensive than the less reliable Phillips or Osram offerings, not sure why your testing has yielded different results to everyone else who's tried Phillips and Osrams back to back...

And you can easily see the beam pattern on a sunlit road from HIDs, at least on my SV, on the 675 and on the KTM you can...

Re: Upgrade Headlight Bulbs, Which ones?

I have had Philps Extreme's in my car for last year if not longer and are still on first set and I do ALOT of night miles, so they last longer than a few months.
