The other option is to go into Millets and buy some of their own brand thermal base layers, ( top and bottoms ) they are reasonably priced and I found they worked well for me when I was riding through winters.

use those as a start layer and then layer up on top of that.

Nice write up Mark :-)

The only problem I still find is hands and occasionally feet. I thermal up and layer everything else which is fine but hands are always cold. I have poor circulation like most lasses but once they get cold, that's it, they will take absolutely ages to warm up. I tried putting a think pair of gloves under my bike gloves but just ended up having to squeeze the outer glove on so knew they weren't a good idea.

A lot of coping with the winter elements appears to be trial and error with me. When I find something that works then great but might take a few runs before I do (and a lot of suffering ).

P.S Fizz I have Peter Storm thermals from Millets, seem to be doing the trick had em for a year or so now.

Roll on the bleddy summer!

This thread should be stickied to pop up 1st November each year.
As Missyorkie chris says " Roll on the bleddy summer! "
Surely with this we'll now get some warm weather?

One thing I see on tucano urbano website that looks absolutely cracking idea is a neoprene sock that you affix around the bottom of your lid. Looks like it would be effective in stopping wind blast up the front of your lid and stop your neck tube getting soaked.

Taking off fleecy neck tube after 100 miles of freezing rain is worst feeling ever.

Are you talking as pillion? I've seen the oxford wrap around heated grips attached to the grab rail just for your situation.

Yeah, heaven forbid when I end up having to ride my own bike in the winter months...

Didn't know they did heated grab rail grips....interesting. But probably not worth the money as I don't do that much pillioning in the winter.

Wrap around heated 'grips' only fitted to the pillion grab rail.

What Mark has posted all makes sense, specially for those just getting into biking and not wanting to fork out for electric clothing when most of the other layers can be used off the bike. Would add one other layer though (which might remove one other layer), one piece rain suit.

Its all very well getting dressed properly, but one down-pour at the wrong moment will cause the soggy jacket/trousers to wick heat away from body even quicker. Another upside of the oversuit is it would keep the crap off the gear and so make it last just that little bit longer.

Oh and for the record, been using a Widder for a few years now and the Ghost has heated grips as well :)
