Yeah I never really thought about resoling walking boots for some reason, just thought they were a bit too specific :smt102 How much does it cost roughly? And does it not just make the boot weaker in terms of structure?

Altberg

The one's I have are discontinued now, but brilliant and can be refurbished by Altberg. Made to fit though you do have to either visit the factory or attend one of their fitting sessions at the retail outlets. I think I'm up to something over 2k miles on mine now, 10-15mls/week typical over 4yrs.

I also have their Clubman Classic bike boots.

My Ice boots are Salomon and are the best boots I have ever owned, but at £180 they had better be! I also loved my Salomon X Adventure 7 boots until they finally died while I was doing my Mountain Leader Training in November 03.

These days my summer lightweights are a lovely pair of Leather Asolo scrambling boots. Good and stiff for great support and also a sole unit good enough for a nice mountain day. Love them.

Hate Brasher due to them not lasting up to a day as an MLT instructor, Berghaus and Karrimore also feature quite low in my great boot list. In the other extreme, I have some light weight walking shoes by Merrell, rebadged as Peter Storm, they are great boots.

Was just about to say Altberg.

Although I don't do much hill walking, I like to buy good boots for work as sometimes the terrain we are working in (given I am in a semi rural area) can be pretty trecherous so I like to have proper support. Tried various and for the past year n a bit, I have been wearing a pair of Altbergs, I think they are Rangers. They are high legged boots with vibram soles and are fully waterproof. They are excellent boots.

Another good brand is Lowa. They make some good boots too.

YC would say the same, he's got a pair he's had years :-) He's got some Scarpas now which appear to be the business :)

If you use the scarpa boots, you can also pair them up with the other great piece of kit, the yeti gators :D

I'm another one that likes cheap Hi tec boots xlites think mine are. Get em from TK Max (stingy I know) and they last for years. Both mine are waterproof and have been tried and tested in ponds :-)
Not really keen on the Karrimor, they always feel too rigid and heavy.
As for German paras, I used to wear them for years, still have a pair, but compared to proper hiking boots, TBH honest they are sh1ite!

Nothing wrong with Hi-tec boots.

I have a pair of these when I'm out with the kids on walking days.
Nice and light and good value for money (had mine about 6 years now and still going strong) I'm also a fan of their magnum range for detachment nights in the summer too :)
