Ralph, hope you feel better having got that off your chest. I'd love to say your wrong but you're not. The vast majority of bobbies on the beat and even those is some of the more specialized roles are just trying to do the best they can to catch and convict the bad guys, the problem is they are now spending so much time ticking boxes and filling in forms to show what they have done that they are actually struggling to find time to do anything...

I could spend hours romancing about the good old days and theorizing as to where we went wrong, but in short I think it's down to trust. There's a theory that if you trust someone to do something they feel trusted, and try not to betray that trust. Conversely if you remove that trust and responsibility there is little for an individual to measure up to. We hear that all the time these days, nobody wants to take responsibility for anything, it's always somebody else's fault, or it's down to the system. It's not right, it shouldn't be that way, and I never thought I'd say it but I'll be glad when I'm out of it. Don't get me wrong, I love my job and most of the time I like the public I do it for, but I'm really beginning to have a healthy disrespect for those that sit in their ivory towers playing politics with our lives. The problem is they've let the kids run the kindergarten for to long. Great for the kids whilst it lasted, but now they've grown up and realized they actually need to earn a living, but don't know how to. I honestly don't know where we go from here. I'm seeing these kids join the police force and they just don't understand the concept of personal responsibility. They can't make decisions and personally I'm none to happy that my future is in their hands. I'm not convinced the grass is any greener anywhere else but I'm sure going to take a look when I retire in a few years.

Im pro police because my bro was one for 30 years.
But i do genuinely think most cops will try to do the right thing, but they slog their guts out then for the CPS to say they wont proceed for lack of evidence or they get a very lenient sentence, must feel like a kick in the teeth for the work you put in.
But... i do ocassionally come across tossers who really do think they are something, have attitudes when none was given to them, focus on the easy stuff like telling me off in a deserted high street for turning right when left turn only (if you knew the street, you would do the same as well, its ridiculous, even police have done it) and then driving past a gang of 15-20 teenagers who late at night were being anti social and didnt even stop.

I swear, if a kid spat at me I'd want to rip his head off - and these cops somehow managed to stay really calm.
.

Watching cop programs makes me angry too, lifestyle criminals just make a joke of the whole country and system. I wish we had a 'three strikes and your out system' like canada (is it?). Britain would be a much better place. Otherwise good citizens often face quite life changing punishments for minor offences yet those that steal, attack and generally **** around get minor sentences which don't even affect them as they rarely have jobs and therefore just do it again and again and again.

I often find myself handing over a prisoner to the next shift as it takes so long to deal from arrest to finalisation of process, then I go in the next day to see what the CPS decision was and I can guarantee my words have F**K, THE & WHAT in a different order.

Ohh Specialone that not good, lazy bones officer behind the wheel there !

And there's my case proceeding to court when every copper on here thought the CPS would drop it like a hot potato!

I've been in a few of these programs (no I'm not coughing to which ones) and I can tell you an awful lot goes on behind the scenes. We had a film crew out with us for virtually a whole month and in the end they probably had less that five minutes of actual footage that they used. The classic was after we had sat up nearly 8 hours waiting for a particular motor to come along and we then executed a textbook box stop and it was all over in 30 seconds. The producer was really disappointed we hadn't rammed it, or let it start a pursuit. In fact it went so well it made really boring telly!
Our problem is when it gets exciting the last ting I want is a camera pointing over my shoulder.....

Got it in one, specialone!
While the Police may not be perfect, they are on a hiding to nothing with all the paperwork and then when a case does go to court they see the shambles the CPS have made of the whole affair. And then the Court is so restricted by government rules & regs that the whole episode is shown as the farce it is.
The one common denominator? H.M.Government - the very people who will be arriving on our doorsteps any day soon begging for our votes and promising the earth.
