Re: earth problem
Have you checked the continuity of the rear coil back to the ECU thing under the rear seat?
|
Re: earth problem
Earthing the coil will stop that cylinder running. The ignition works by switching the neutral, (earth), the live connection is constant.
If the other cylinder functions correctly take the advice above and check for continuity between the problem coil and the ECU. |
Re: Ignition problem.
how do i check this?
could it be the white wire with black dashes that coes th the black box about the size of a fag packet in the tail of the bike? the front sparks up and starts fine. replaced the ht lead but nothing? |
Re: Ignition problem.
That's the one. At least I think it is, I no longer have an SV manual.
Essentially you're checking whether the wire carries current along it's full length. My multi-meter has a function that beeps when a full circuit is made between the two probes. |
Re: Ignition problem.
how do i get the wire out of the ecu?
thats if it is broke havent cheked it yet. how about the ecu thing how would you know if this is had it? |
How to tell if ignition ecu is failed?
Hi all just a question.
how can you tell if the cdi/ecu thing on a curvy sv is on its way out. thanks peeps |
Re: how to tell if ecu/cdi is on its way?
Be easier for you to say why you think it is
|
Re: how to tell if ecu/cdi is on its way?
been having a problem with the rear coil not sparking. if its not the -wire on the coil to the ecu/cdi black box thing.
its the only poss thing left |
Re: how to tell if ecu/cdi is on its way?
Is it cutting out when warm? Most likely the coil. Could also be the HT lead breaking down or the Spark plug. Very doubtfull to be the ECU

Re: Ignition problem.
There's a great big white plastic connector that plugs into the ECU, you need to unplug this and identify which contact the relevant wire goes to. You can then check continuity between this contact and the connector at the coil end.
It'll be worth giving the whole connector and ECU a good spray of WD40 or similar when you've finished. As per your other post, there is no way to check the condition of the ECU. I would imagine your rear coil negative wire is at fault if your front cylinder is firing correctly, as I think I'm right in thinking the SV fires both plugs at once, regardless of which one is intended to spark. I was lucky enough to get a spare ECU to check whether it was at fault or not. |
