and to go against all but a few of those, i would love a Tuono :smt050 although the lack of mods, price would bother me. But the Tuono has real presence, brilliant running gear, sounds amazing with the right cans, goes like sh*t of a shovel

with that sead about the Tuono i suppose the two main criterias are good power, and to connect with the bike

+1
Except for the mods in certain circumstances.
Barwel why would want to mod a tuono? the next step up is a unusable road bike :smt082

What makes you buy a particular bike?

Is it the price? The looks? How well its doing in the race season? What designer kit? The colour? The way it rides, the way it sounds?? So many options...

I.E If you had a 2008 GSXR 1000cc, and Suzuki brought out a new model with a few kg less, a few bhp more, and some fancy branded brakes, would it tempt you to upgrade? Or would you think "really not worth buying a whole new bike for that little bit extra?"

Just someone asked me why I wanted my bike as its quite old now and falling behined many bikes. They simply could not understand that whilst its slower than many bikes, handlings not superb, fuel economy is awful, but what it does do is it makes me excited every time I open the garage and see the shape, the paintwork, the little details. But mainly, when im riding and I open the throttle, the induction note is literally spank worthy. Nothing i've ridden comes close. So for ME its the way the bike makes me feel. Its not got fancy suspension, nor radial brakes, but everything thats there makes me giggle like a schoolgirl. I like being a bit different from everyone else, and honestly, I like the attention when 50+ jap superbikes are sitting in a carpark, and I turn up on my mentally sounding, totally unique looking bike. It draws a crowed and I enjoy chatting about it.

So what does it for you? Has it got to have those fancy radial brakes and 180bhp and winning the WSB, or do you prefer something a little different to the crowd?

I agree, rather stand out from the crowd on something like a benelli or nv agusta (if i could fit on to either).
Failing that, the best britian is offering 675 daytona!

The SV was a temporary stand in as my Bandit got written off. After travelling to the South of Spain and back on it I decided to buy it. I've owned all sorts of bikes in the past but this was simply the best fun I ever had on a bike.

I love the YZF750 though. Had one years ago and wished I had never sold it. When this one came up I jumped at the chance to own it. Got it for the right price. It's grin factor all the way.

I'm not interested in having the latest, fastest, best handling. The YZF ticks all the right boxes. I love the retro design and paintwork of the era. Just like the old tiger stripes of my old CBR.

YZF 750 actually ticks most of my boxes, quick civilised, retro looking but still able to cut it and retired before the mainstream jump to the 900's and 1000's.
Its a shame that the 750's did die out as a class (obviosuly leaving the gsxr warhorse as the sole represenitive) as i personally believed they offered the handling of the 600's and the pace of the 1000's

the best alternative now is the zx10 which is small enough to throw about and bonkers enough to ride. Roll on the 2011 updates of the model and see if it can match the bmw supersports masterpiece

I am ALWAYS happy to post a picture of Nelli

But i've got a shed load of carbon to go on it. Tank top/sides, keylock, upper chainguard (to go with all the other carbon on it already).

I never got on with the sv, and test rode a street triple r. It blew me away, and I'm not a good enough rider to make anywhere near the most of it. It fits me better, it's much easier to corner, and has more oomph where I use it. Love not having so much engine braking too.
