Car exhausts are made out of cheap & nasty steel that doesnt need to be finished off. Bike exhausts are made out of posh materials like Carbon fibre, stainless steel & Titanium thats why they are so expensive.
I haven't paid more than £50 for any of my cans, just keep your eye on Ebay, there are plenty of bargains to be had
