Is buying shocks off ebay not risky business?

Define risky? Like anything you could buy a lemon. Shock oil deteriorates just as fast as any other oil. 10-15k and it is very thin.
Good thing is it would have to be really f***ed to be worse than stock! :-D |

True true, i've never bought anything off ebay myself so that's probably why i'm sceptical.

I've bought loads of stuff off ebay and find that, in general, people with a relatively high number of sales (100+) are usually very keen to keep their feedback rating at 100% and generally provide a lot better customer service than some shops.

I've just fitted a 2004 ZX10R shock to my 2001 SV. It cost 20 quid of ebay and took about 2 hours to fit and it has transformed the handling. The pre-load needed adjusting as the rear end was a bit lower than stock. Only mods needed were: Kawasaki bottom bolt, 2x2inch allen key bolts for spacers to keep the battery box bent away from the shock reservoir (no cutting was needed to the box), sawed off the battery box metal retaining section off the petrol tank hinge and shaving off half an inch from the stock splash guard. Sounds a lot when writing it but it was very easy. I say go for it.
