Don't think the ban will last much longer if the rain keeps coming like this!

The water companies are a complete joke... No additional dams or reservoirs have been built since the 1950's... And the population since then has shall we say, grown somewhat.

They should invest some of the hundreds of millions of profits in new infrastructure. Robbing *******s.

Exactly a certain robbing barstwerad supplier has been quietly selling off the old water board sites and some reservoirs are now in the private sectors. They rely on it ****ing down as always to cover up the fact that we have a real shortage of actual water resource and as G rightly says - the population has exploded since the 50's and will continue to do so. One real Summer would see the UK in real trouble....

Sitting watching a thunder storm with massive black clouds in the distance but it always seems to be around us never over us. Our back lawn looks like a straw mat and the garden is a dust bowel.
I've been out in torrential rain today within 10 miles of here but we are still as dry as a bone.

It is a long while since I studied geography at GCSE but if I recall correctly, after a period of hot and dry weather, the ground is hard. So, a lot of rain all at once doesn't help much as it just runs away.

Might have had snow over the winter, but that doesn't help much with water levels, as it wasn't actually snowing all the time, just days of below freezing temperatures making it seem worse as it didn't thaw. Unless it's rained a lot more a few miles down the road from here, then it's been a very dry year so far; I shoul know coz I've had to water my veggies loads! It is tipping it down now however, so job saved tonight. :cool:

There has been massive under investment for years.
They discussed a national grid in the 80's but it was decided it wasnt needed.
The north generally has more water than the south so a national grid would solve this, not sure how they would do it though.

Tim obviously you are not banned from using a hosepipe, just from using one connected to the mains supply. Pumping out from your 'own supply' in the basement is specifically not covered! :rolleyes:

It does not 'always rain' or else the rivers would not be as low as they are. Take your heads out your arses and look over a few bridge parapets, see the wide empty rocky thing below? That's meant to be full of water. We have a drought people, it has not rained the 'normal' amount all year.

As has been already alluded to, short bursts of heavy rain are no good for filling rivers and reservoirs, you need days and weeks of steady rain that soaks the ground and gives a constant supply to watercourses.

The northern half of England depends very much on reservoirs. Many of these are at less than 50% of their normal stocks for the time of year. Therefore steps are needed to reduce water consumption. It's that simple. Hosepipes are very wasteful, how many folks do you see washing the car and leaving the hose running, with expensive treated drinking water being poured down the drain or watering their lawns for hours on end? People are profligate with a scarce resource because it's just there in the tap.

And whoever said there has been no dam building since the 50s, stop talking ****!

I posted as I recalled in the last hosepipe ban somebody been fined for syphoning dirty bath water onto their lawn. The wording is poor as it is described as a ban on hose pipe use, and not a ban on hose pipes connected to the mains.

so am I banned from filling my watering can from the hose pipe or must I walk back to the tap with the can each time? hose pipe is fitted with a trigger nozzle, I let go, it stops coming out
