so i popped to halfrauds and got a dinky set of bike jump leads and their trickle charger

put the old battery on trickle for the rest of the day and when i came home from work, jumped the bike with the old battery and new leads, started first time

tomorrow, i will remove alarm or make an attempt

neighbours tell me the alarm has being going off everyday when teh wind blows, now they tell me...

so after running it for a bit, tried to start it again... now with jacket and helmet on... didn't work...

so, seat off, again. spare battery and jump leads out, again. jumped it, again.

put stuff away, jump on bike and roar off into the distance, 1.5 hours later come home, switch off, wait a minute, re-starts OK!

tomorrow, the butchery begins...

its easy enough to do just follow the loom from the alarm until it joins the bike loom. Then cut out the alarm wiring and splice the bike loom back together, can't really go wrong as all the bike loom should be colour coded just match up the wires connect them back up

Good choice in taking it off, as soon as I bought mine I got it taken off. Connecting new indicators and tail lights are as far as I go with electrical systems though so got it taken off by an auto electrician!

If the alarm is flattening your battery in a few days then there's some thing wrong with your bike's electrical system, removing the alarm will not fix this.

Eh? I've seen a knackered alarm cause this.

Was something up with it, I think it was trying to engage the indicators all the time or something weird like that. But it was definitely and traceably drawing a current.

its best to check with your insurer before taking it out, luckily my policy stayed the same price without an alarm

I'm not doubting that it can happen, but I've very very few times seen an actual duff alarm unit, and they just didn't work rather than flattening the battery.
Again - I'm not doubting that it could happen, but damaged wiring/poor fitting has by a huge margin been the cause of alarm problems, not the unit itself, if the battery goes flat I'd certainly look at the charging system/battery first.

Easy to diagnose either way.

I think alarms are less reliable than you give credit for though.

I take your point, but I really don't agree and, like you, I do this lots. I simply can't believe that I've just been really lucky to not see many duff ones, I'm convinced my experience has been really average, (this could be said about me on many levels :().
