Re: Petrol Tank position

On my last visit to Scarborough, at least one competing SV had tank risers fitted and had passed scrutineering. As mentioned, the tank mounts remain the same. This may help.

The chances are it was a tuned SV and not taking part under Minitwin regulations.

You could be right on that one Berlin.

Re: Petrol Tank position

I may need to spend some time working this through but at the moment the front mounting point of my petrol tank do not bolt right down to touch the frame. And I'm a little bit concerned about this.

So I have some rubber 'sleeves' (nearly called them spacers then!) in the holes on the petrol tank- obviously these are anti vibration things, not there to raise the petrol tank up. But with all the carbs and airbox in situ the petrol tank rests on the top and there is a small gap - no more than 10mm - between the frame and the rubber tank mounts.

Is this 'normal' or should the tank clamp right down to the frame? If this doesn't make sense I'll try to take a photo and post it up here.

Oh, and its got a BMC air filter, but I don't think that affects it.

Sounds like you've nipped something inside. Check the Airbox is on correctly (along with the carbs) and then check the pipe from the tank isn't being nipped across the top of the air box or similar.

On the rear tank mount the tank pivot point is below the bolt level. It is possible to put it on the wrong way up (I did) which means the tank doesn't fit properly.
