Bikes are pretty loud with open pipes but if you hear a big V8 with no pipes you will know noise! Different league of loudness!

Just my 2 cents (I did my work experience with MHP exhausts, so know a little bit, having built both a race and road system and repaired a fair few more)

In terms of performance, an end can on its own will actually only give you minimal power increases - some of them claim up to 5bhp, it's closer to 2 or 3. What you want to increase power is a full system, as these will have pipework which has significantly fewer bends and kinks, and those bends and kinks that are present will be smoother. This allows the gasses to flow better, which in turn increases performance.

On the 'why not use any end-can' question, the end can itself produces back-pressure which is important in the cycle of an engine. The exact details elude me but they are nessecary to maintain or improve performance, especially midrange power. Stubbying an exhaust basically removes the resonant chamber of the exhaust and reduces that back pressure, hence the loss power which is most keenly felt in the midrange.

Ah the great backpressure myth! Wondered how long it would take to see that :-P

sounds good though :safe: :D

and to add if you want to make a loud can very loud take the packing out

That makes it even peakier.

So for a normal rider like me on the verge of cutting off the oem can and replacing it with a delkevic stubby cause me any noticable power loss or problems? or will it just cause jaw ache from constant grinning :D

Probably the jaw ache! Closely followed by the purchase of many ear plugs!

I've been running my stubby CCC for over 2 years now and still don't get tired of the sound. I do wear ear plugs/headphones all the time as you just can't ride it otherwise.

I did pop the baffle in recently for a week or two and did feel that the bike was more responsive/quicker to accelerate. Top end wasn't affected at all, but accelerating did feel quicker with the baffle in.

Of course that could be some noise/mind induced tomfoolery, however I do the same journey, every day of the week and have done for the last 3 years on the bike, so pretty much in tune with even subtle changes.

I guess a couple of dyno runs would tell one way or the other.

No noticeable power loss IMO...to any lay person.
Had differing sorts of links on the SVs and would have noticed any power loss, especially with the huge hi level and stubbied Scorpion. Going from standard to Leos on the VRap hasn't unearthed anything either as far as power is concerned.

Grin factor gauranteed!

So big grins all the way then :D Cheers for the peace of mind Nobby and Dizz

Should you however notice anything untoward and not to your liking, go talk to an expert ;)

I was planning on making the arrow end can on the DRz a stubby can... is this a bad idea then?
