If you mean bike-bike comms Andy, all the transcievers (walkie-talkies) use the same frequency (PMR446 radios) that do not require a licence and will communicate to other PMR446 units regardless of make. These are just connected to a headset unit of varying sophistication to enable their use on a bike. The Autocom setup I referred to above is pretty sophisticated and works well, the Maplin unit I mentioned was a cheap PMR446 walkie-talkie(worked fine) and a headset with push to talk button mounted on the handlebars (this was a PoS).

Autocom with a good quality PMR446 radio.

Autocom.

Go on eBay
Search for either:

"Super Pro AVI" or "Active-Plus"

I have both models, and I don't see why you'd want anything else to be honest.

Main difference between the two is that the Super Pro AVI has more inputs and is bigger, with more adjustments on the outside of the box, where as the Active Plus is smaller, and has less inputs, but you can still use it for:

Bike-to-Bike radio
Rider to Pillion (and vice versa)
Music
Phone
Sat Nav

After installing the headsets in your helmets, and finding a place on the bike for the unit, you just gotta connect it to the bikes power, plug in your headsets and any other devices you use and make a few slight adjustments and there you go.

If you want any help with any Autocom stuff, PM me as I know a fair bit and will be more than happy to help.

i've got a cheepy £6 one that i got from lidl, going to make a new set helmet setup for it and make some breakouts for the riders unit to a walkie talkie and link the phone/mp3 player to the input on it

£60, not exactly cheap, you could get a second hand older version autocom for that, but you can also buy them for less than a £10, now they are cheap, unfortunately they don't work, well not past 30mph. What make model is it you are reccomending?
