Yeah and a bargain he was getting, I'd reduced my total incoming for sale and postage by £10 thats a 19% loss on my intended price.
The cheek is him expecting further reductions but unwilling to accept them himself is what pushed my button davido.

To follow up he accepted he'd pay £45 and that I could post it as I pleased. Im yet to recieve the payment so the item is still listed on ebay.

Not sure what the problem is here, other than £15 for postage seems quite high (without knowing what you're selling).

I posted a pit bike for less than £15 through one of the couriers, so unless it's a large item, £15 is high IMO.

As has been said, it's a bit cheeky to list something on eBay, then encourage/respond to offers which are outside eBay rules, why don't you just list as sale price or make an offer?

charging higher postage means paying less to EBAY as a seller after the end of the sale

Hence some people listing stuff for 99p with the real value in the postage. They're trying to put a stop to it - last time I listed a DVD I'm sure it would only let me put the postage as free.

Ebay automatically fill in the postage for a large letter for DVD's and CD's now, you cannot enter more than £2 for them

Yes, they can control items like these.

Amazon does the same for books I've been selling, its a right PITA because it doesn't cover the actual cost of postage

When you take into account the cost of a DVD sized padded envelope etc postage is nearer £3-4

Ok if you dont understand then there is a chance that others are equally confused so I'll try explain further. The P&P fee is exactly that, postage AND PACKAGING. Now I know some people will send an item 2nd class and in nothing more than a binliner but I really go to town to ensure that the item will not arrive damaged; bubble wrap gaffertape and cardboard the whole 9yrds. Some of that is new some recycled but rarely is any of it free.
I post things by Next day recorded this seems to start at £7 min.
Then there are ebay listings fees £1.20 is about average when listing a buy it now with a couple of pics.
ebay selling fees are a few percent,
as are paypal fees which are taken from the whole transaction not just the item price.

So yes £15 may see me scraping a couple of quid on a perticularly light weight item but this is a carb and the rubber's and clips which are required for fitting it so £7 postage is quite optimistic. £15 IMO is spot on, similar carb only are listed for £20 and higher.

BUT AND IM AT WITS END WITH HOW FOLK CANT SEE THIS.
HIS INITIAL REQUEST WAS THAT I REDUCE MY OVERALL INCOME BY £10... 19%!!! I AGREE BUT HE THEN WANTED ME RECIEVE EVEN LESS BY HAVING ME TAKE THE PAYPAL FEES, TAKING MY OVER ALL REDUCTION TO OVER 20% THAT AND THAT ONLY IS WHAT MAKES HIM THE CHEEKY EBAY GIT THIS WHOLE THREAD IS ABOUT. Its ok for me to loose 20% but he wouldnt share even 2% of that with me.

I dont encourage offers outside, they're inevitable, and unaviodable!
I'll always respond but I wont always accept, sometimes they're rediculasly low lol.
No seriously thought if I've a number of watchers or if anyone has bid (on auction items) then I'll honour the listing. This was a buy it now listing less than 2 days old with maybe one watcher.

FTR it doesnt matter if I list items in an auction, with buy it now or even with "open to offers" you still, with out fail get folk sending messages saying "hiya I just wondered if you had a quick sale buy it now price" This bloke happened to be a little more forward than that but fair play to him there.

They've clamped down on that now, postage cost is unchallanged up to a certain amount (no idea what) but after that you're also charged on that value too.
I recently posted a set of wheels listing the postage at £25 - In the end it cost me £45 sent next day signed for, not to mention all the packaging which included timber, gaffertape and cable ties (no doubt amounting to over £10). On that transaction I noticed ebay took some money out of that £25. As do paypal, who take a cut based on the whole sum irrelevant of the postage element.

Thats quite cheeky, how do they know how it'll be posted/packaged. To assume its only going in a jiffy bag is a bit off IMO.

Thing is he just made you an offer.If its not enough decline it.Thats buying and selling.The value of the item is always what someone is willing to pay and what someone else will sell it for.No agreement no sale.
