I had one for about 6 months. Great bike but seriously thirsty. I couldn't get more than 100 miles out if my tank even pootling along at 70 80 on my mainly motorway commute. Got myself an 07 registered k4 gsxr600 now. I find it confide than my sz and its certainly more economical!!

Only problem is you can get a decent thou for £2500 but to get an equivalent gixxer it's a big jump in spending. It's hard to argue with the value of the SV! 100 miles a tank wouldn't be too bad. I was only getting 120ish out of the gixxer so it's not massively different.

Decision decisions......!

Very true. The difference in cost is a fair bit of petrol!! Also my thou sounded awesome with the yoshis on. I was lucky as I got more for my 06 sz than I paid for my 07 gixxer;)

I'm now working in Newcastle, and all being well I'll be in Edinburgh from April. And that's definitely commutable from Glasgow, so...

I'm looking to get back on 2 wheels, and rather than go for something sporty like the gixxer or an r1, I think my money would be better spent on a nice comfy SV. And if I'm doing 90 miles a day, I'm thinking the thou could be a good shout.

Firstly, has anybody any thoughts on the thou over the 650? Secondly, has anybody got one for sale in Scotland/Northern England that they'd like to point me in the direction of? I've checked eBay and AT but would buy from a regular on here before I'd buy off either of them.

Thanks folks.

go for the sv 1000,or failing that if your going to use it summer and winter and want something to use and abuse and dont want to spend a lot on it and want some thing that will clock up the miles for very little money buy a bandit 6 or 12 good for 100k+ and almost indestructable

Good God people! What is wrong with you Thou's?

Had mine since Jan 2010, she is a K4, been down the road once, fell off twice more. She now has K7 GSXR-750 forks, racing cans, new air filter, double bubble screen, is now black (was silver,) is as flickable as any "touring" twin should be. You wanna "flick" your bike, buy a screaming 600 or something!

I have never had issues getting knee down on my bike or riding to Germany on it or getting 180 miles out of the tank from Hull to Strensham Services!

I usually get the "low fuel" light on anywhere between 120 and 130 miles when regular “town, city and motorway” riding. Once got it down to 100 miles, but, that was “hard gas” for the whole tank.

Other than that they are comfortable two up, can carry a fair bit a weight, wheelie quite easily (be careful not to starve the front cylinder of oil mind you,) are at home on long tours or race tracks and are a hoot to ride when you can open the throttle and just feel the torque drive you to hyper-space

So, get one! And then join the SV1000 Portal too, like I did

Right, Sv1000 it is.

All I need to do now is get my contract switched to Edinburgh and then find a good value one to buy.

If anyone here's of one for circa £2500, let me know....

I paid £2200 for mine two years ago and she was 6 year old and done 32k miles.

I have done 18k on here since then and all I have needed to change has been the oil when it has gone too dark for my liking.

You'd be able to get a good K5 or K6 for that I would think

If you wanna look for one, like I said visit http://www.sv-portal.com/ and have a natter on there.

I am the same on there as on here and there are a few for sale on there at the moment IIRC
