IIRC the tank risers are of no benefit to the pointys, the air enters the airbox from the front, like this..

And on the earlier curveys the air enters through the top, under the tank so the tank risers would get more cool air to the inlet of the filter.

I agree. Seems from searching around that this is the general opinion so I wont be bothering with risers.
Also, some have said it looked odd and spoilt the lines of the bike. Price also a bit steep for what is essentially just a couple of washers.

Ok so fitted the sv1000 snorkel yesterday. 10 min job and as you can see from the pics the air box looks like it will benefit from increased airflow.

Emotional horsepower - if you like the noise just leave it off.

Not had chance to get out yet. Not looking for or expecting more horsepower, just for the airflow to be less restrictive. Didn't fancy leaving the snorkel out all together though. Just gives me piece of mind knowing there's something there as opposed to nowt.
And if there's a better sound then that's all well and good. I'd heard some say the noise is too much with no snorkel at all.

:-? If it were less restrictive it would give more power, (but it isn't so it won't).

Plenty of people have taken the top off the airbox completely with no ill effect. You can use some washers to hold the filter in place, or buy a bracket that is essentially the periphery of the top, or cut the lid you have the same, it's plenty well shielded by the tank.

The snorkel is an intake silencer - so that would make sense.

It is very loud without a snorkel at all. I keep meaning to put mine back in.

So rode the bike to work tonight. No noticeable effect to performance either positive or negative. Induction noise is slightly louder than standard but not drastically.
I'm ok with that tbh, glad its not extremely loud but happy with a slightly throaty sound that's not over bearing.
All in all I'd say if you want the sound & can find a cheap second hand snorkel then it's an ok mod.
