Importer

If you get them from the importer make sure they send you the right one. I tried twice and each time they sent the wrong one.

Guys why all the fuss? JHS always gives good advice and back up when you buy or use his products...he races SV's and has probably been fiddling with them longer than any of us. Plus you're getting good, clued up advice from Mike who also races em, so give yourselves a break and talk to JHS......shop local it's cheaper than long distance calls when it goes t£ts up.

I already did, and he won't sell it seperate from the jet kit, which in all likelihood I don't need but will cost me around £100. When I asked what you do if you buy the kit and then damage the filter- through particle damage, oil pollution from the breathers, accidental damage- he told me, and I quote "WELL IF YOU ARE THAT HAND FISTED I WOULD NOT ADVISE YOU ATTEMPT THE FITMENT OF THE KIT"

Which is pretty funny, but not precisely what i was hoping to hear :)

JHS isn't a distributor. They probably buy them from the distributor I just mentioned, so here we cut out the middle man.

I'm not convinced with JHS's policy on selling good value packages. The kit they sell costs 100 but seperately the filter and jets cost less than 50.

You can't get that exact kit elsewhere... Though Factory Pro do a Stage 2 kit as well. The one JHS sell isn't the same as the one you usualyl find for sale (doesn't go big enough for a modded bike, I suppose)

Why don't you need a jet kit? More importantly, how do you know you don't need a jet kit?

What is the point of buying a filter without setting up the bike to use it best?

Aaaagggghhhhh!!! Haven't we been through your school of logic before?

Buy the whole kit from JHS and you will save money in the long run. How many combinations of filters and jets do you think James has been through? How much time and money will you have to spent on the dyno to get an optimised set up? For f**k's sake stop being so tight - You are buying a kit and a lot of expertise not just a couple of jets and a cheap filter.

I don't need a jet kit because once I've got the cams fitted the bike's going to a race builder's for headwork and rejetting, and they've already got all the jets needed in a big drawer :) Other than that, the only thing you usually get is a replacement needle (or two) but as the euro bikes already come with a slotted needle there's limited benefit from that, and replacement springs which as far as most people can tell don't actually do anything better. So there's no benefit to buying a kit, when YPE will pick out the parts I need and just charge me for them, instead of charging £100 for £50 worth of bits, some of which I won't need.

Or at least, that's how it seems. I've asked JH if he can come up with a benefit from his kit that can't be matched in this way (and told him I'll buy if he can) and he's declined to answer so far. But if he does, I'll listen.

The suggestion that we're paying for expertise on this one is dubious... There are many sources of info for SV work, and most of the sources are free- TWF on SVRider, for example, is a professional engine builder but also shares knowledge on SV work freely. And in the case of the jet kit, JHS's jet kit is the Dynojet Stage 1 kit with some bigger jets, according to some who've used it, so the amount if research and expertise involved is limited.

So anyone wanting to buy the BMC race filter its £55 inc. p&p. They are in stock now. If you decide to order ask if they'll do 10% of for this site. I'm ordering soon.

I'm also after some 140 mains that are the correct size. I bought some wrong hex ones yesterday :(

Andy.
