Don't get me going on the subject of bar ends!!!

From my own experience, don't try to unscrew them in the first instance, Suzuki use cheap and nasty screws of soft metal. They are also probably siezed in, I think they have Loctite or something similar on them.

I did it the hard way, shredded the tops of the screws then had to drill them off, fortunately there is enough screw shaft projecting from the handlebar to get a set of Molegrips on. I obviously had to replace the screws as well. I should really get some good hex bolts.

However, I'm told that you can twist the bar end itself if you get a big enough set of grips on them and this will break the seal making it easy to unscrew them normally. One reason I didn't try this was that I wanted to re-use the original ends which only needed a bit of repainting, I suspect putting a set of big grips on the bar ends will completely muller them.

I had to batter a big torq bit into mine after the original head stripped... Just like the carb screws, the wrong fastener in the wrong place. But if I'd had an impact driver they'd have been out first time, and worst comes to worst, you do what you did and grind the tops of the screws off and molegrip them out.

The R&G bar ends and DHB bar ends have a hex bolt. The right fasener in the right place... But They'd not fit with stock bar ends

Indicators will be different depending on the model but there's no more to any of them than screws and plugs, dead easy.

Do you have crash bungs fitted? Now is the perfect time to get it sorted if you don't (well, before you crashed was  )

Bike is an SK3. I stripped the bar ends down, I have bent the screw and there is some spongy thing (im not too technical) that is split so I think I need to replace it. I have kind of bodged it for now.

Also the indicator ive done a real bodge job, (electrical insulation tape and lots of it). It look terrible but it will do for a few weeks.

Unfortunately I did have crash bungs fitted but having examined them they didn't do anything. The indicator and throttle / bar end took all the impact,

just a general question about crash mushrooms

are they only there to protect the frame and tank in the instance of the bike sliding on the ground. Is the fairing, handlebars, leavers, pegs etc etc... left to fend for them selfs :?:

Warren 14-01-05 09:59 PM

i dunno about the SV, but the RnG's for the CBR are designed to protect fairing frame, leaving the exhuast to fend for itself.

and the design of the CBR means that the handlebars dont touch the floor when the bike is on the floor :) no broken levers for me :)
