I was 17 when i got my sv, insurance £500 tpo, but that was because i had unlimited millage, would have been out £300,

its a good bike, but at 6ft and broad across the shoulders, im considering changing it, for sommat bigger.

Good luck for your test, and remeber, despite what u might think is safe, id a bus is at the side of the road with its hazards on, go around it, dont wait for it  (can ya geuss what i failed on the 1st time)

All the best and welcome to the sanitarium!

hey thanks for all the replies
The insurance is a lot, the average quote will be around 1200 and 1500 a year but i can deal with it, im a full time worker and im budgetting for it!
i need something that can cope with a distance at reasonable comfort, average commuting wont be more than 15 miles most days, but i have friends in far reached places, thats partly why i need a good form of self transport..
I am only 17.. (18 in not long though) but i want something i can stick with for a few years
so is the new Sv taller then the old one?

You're tall and want a cheap bike?
I'd go looking for a late 90's DR 350, some were 33BHP as stock, cheaper to insure than a SV and excellent commuter. With a bit of technical know how you could slap some 17" excel rims and a bigger front disc and be supermoto styling like a good 'un...... But that's what I would do...

im not after a brilliantly cheap bike, im after a good not overly expensive bike that fills my specs.
and..
i REALLY hate supermotos
lol sorry

I know that this is a little off topic but I can not believe the insurance rates that you pay on the other side of the pond. I pay 350 US dollars per year for full coverage (liability, collision, comprehencive, theft) on my 01 SVS. On average what would a 22 year old be paying for insurance over there???

Probably somewhere around £1000 with around a £300 excess.

I'm 23 and I pay £800 but I have business use and convictions and stuff, but live in a nice area.
