After explaining the problem to the guy at the service desk, he goes off to ask the service manager if they can undo it for me half a turn or so and tighten it up so I can undo it, but instead of saying no problem he comes back and says no they can't do that. I ask why and he starts by telling me they will not touch something that someone else starts, but I tell him I didn't start as I couldnt undo the bolt so he goes off again and then comes back and tells me it wouldn't be safe for them to do it and let me ride off. I tell him it's on proper tight and since they tightened it they should atleast undo it and retorque it correctly, he goes off again and comes back to tell me there are a number of reasons it could be so tight like it being siezed and that if I want to book it in for an oil change or service then I'm welcome to do that but there's nothing more he can do. Well I know where I won't be going to get any servicing done now!

So I either leave the oil change and continue using the bike for another 2000 miles, the oil has gone completely black but more worryingly once the bike hits 100 degrees celsius it gets difficult to shift from 1st to 2nd no thanks to using the bike for commuting 10 miles at a time for most of the 2000 miles done mainly Central London, and then let a dealer service it or I try and undo the damn bolt myself and risk destroying the head and shearing it off, what should I do? :?

I think you don't know enuf about mechanics, you should pay a dealer to do all your work, you actualy think a dealership or any real mec hanic would loosen a bolt for you so you can do your own work?

sometimes I can't believe some of the things I read here

your prolly trying to turn the bolt the wrong direction

Well done Randy, that was real helpful.

If the dealer over-tightened it in the first place, damn right they should undo it rather than let their customer risk damaging his bike.

There's me thinking the USA was 'prolly' the best place in the world for customer service!

Done.

Randy, that was pretty unlike you... Why are you presuming Valman's some sort of simpleton, he's just having difficulty with what can be a fiddly job, and it's a fair assumption that the bolt's over tight if it can't be removed reasonably easily. Why the attitude? I'm a pretty competent DIY mechanic now, but if I came across an overtorqued nut that I knew my dealer had touched last, I'd take it to him and tell him to fix it. It's the logical response- if it's been overtorqued and damaged, he can't blame me, whereas if I damage the bolt trying to remove it he's got an excuse.

Huge thanks to Dr Squid for helping me out, there was no way I was going to undo it, yet he made it look very easy  .

He's certainly a good man and knows his spanners (now didn't I suggest enlisting the help of those in the know at Soho, hmm? ;)).
