Come on then guys, I haven't been here long so missed all the previous banter! Has anyone been there for a service etc and do they do a good job? As good my main dealer would?

Let me answer that for you.

Yes they're great and know the SV like their willies.

No their CS is awful and you'll end up regretting it.

You pick.

JHS race (and consistently win) with our highly tuned and fully race-prepared SVs in the MiniTwins race series.
Hmmmm, true, but iirc the mini twins cant be 'tuned' to any great extent as they have a horsepower cap. There are rumours that they use a 750cc bike, alegedly. Maybe sour grapes who knows?

I was chatting with one of the (non-JHS) Minitwins racers down the pub and discussed the possibilities of using a bored out motor. He reckoned it would be an impossibility as the difference in sound alone would give it away and if there was any hint of suspicion, they'd have the thing in bits looking at it. Apparently the scrutineering is very tight. Although, that said I do know of one bike contravening the regs (ever so slightly) in a clever and hard to detect way. :)

I heard that too, though you'd think they'd have noticed the 50shot nitrous bottle painted as a second exhaust :-k

Nah, I call ******** on that... There's no way you could get a 750 through their scrutineering, unless you went to ridiculous lengths (swappable ignition maps would do it...) and the consequences of getting caught would be really bad for the company. I've got very little time for JHS for assorted reasons, but I don't believe this of them.

Where's Mike1234? He'd be the man to shoot this down properly I reckon, since it's his series :)

I can't comment on JHS's ethics on the race track, but to answer Toypop's question from experience: I know JHS, I've used them for servicing, and I've had no cause for complaint. They've done a good, thorough job, always been very helpful, and they're also considerably cheaper than the Suzuki main dealer in my area.

Performance Bike magazine are building a 250mph bike with a Hayabusa engine and chose to keep it at 1300-odd cc and not bore it out, reckoning they can get what they need just by putting in a stronger crank, pistons, etc. and running a turbo.

Increasing the strength of the internals, compression, etc. will give a decent boost if you have enough cash to splash. More expensive than boring it out per bhp gain though. They have (in the archived section) dyno maps of SV650 projects with full systems, etc. and they had gains of 10bhp or more.

Claiming someone else has more cubes than they're letting on is one of the oldest snipes at another car or bike that's faster :D

northwind 23-12-05 12:33 PM

Exactly. The minitwins power limit's seriously tight as well... My road bike's wildly illegal for it, for example. One of the reasons its such a good series. I'm absolutely sure some people will be running illegal bikes in it, though, that just happens in race series, there's a fine tradition of cheating :) Some racers seem to accord more respect to cheating cleverly and getting away with it, than they do to sticking within the rules and winning.

i've had dealings with JHS and too be honest i'm fairly mixed in my view- on the good side, they did a brilliant job setting up my sv and my mates sv, they are very on the ball regarding sv's and very friendly once you are in their workshop, on the down side they always charge more than they originally quote, they rarely return phone calls or emails, and on the odd occaision have quoted **** taking prices, but........ i would still recommend them, just make sure you are absolutely clear on price, work etc
