True, assuming connections and wiring good, the regulator will work consistently, whether that's consistently well or consistently badly is a Suzuki lottery.

I suspect your battery is sulphated, it's sometimes shorting internally.

Either that or do a check for a current leak as per my other post on charging probs - you may well find one of your accessories is leaky.

Yup, done all the usual charging tests and all is well- but then it would be with an intermittant fault, unless I manage to catch it when it's gone wrong- which is maybe once every 2 or 3 months. See the problem?

The battery's known bad already, that's a given... It's usually on charge ovenight with an Optimate and never goes into desulfate mode though, if that's at all relavent. Wouldn't an internal short drain the battery entirely though? It's always got enough charge to turn over once or twice...
