yes, most of my miles are for business, I am the managing partner too, so I get to set the rules.

I get reimbursed for my miles, here in the US, there is a lower IRS rate for bikes also, I don't know why, it costs me just as much if not more to keep up my SV as it does my 320i

yep, i use my bikes for work and get the same milage allowance as the rest of the company using petrol cars. as long as you have buisness use on your insurance, and the bike is serviced as per the manufacturers spec then theres no problem.........oh, yes i'm the company construction division Health and Safety advisor, so i think they're talking ******** about stopping you on H & S grounds!

I would hate to do my company milage on a bike as that would take the fun out of biking. My regular run is Preston to Rugby a couple of times a week. so 290 mile round trip on the motorway. Forget it. Bikes are for twisty country lanes

As I have a company car I get reimbursed fuel cost only at the princely sum of £0.09/business mile. last time I checked I needed to get about 45 miles/gallon just to break even. Initially the bean counters balked at the m6 toll. until it was pointed out that at the internal charging rates being stuck for two hours each way through Birmingham cost a damm site more than the toll

Yes - most of my travelling is around Leeds so on those days I have commuted on the bike and need to go outside the city centre I use the bike. We don't have any policy on bikes and as I'm Chief Exec we probably won't have

On the smartness issue I arrived for one meeting a bit late with a mixture of people I know and those I don't with all the gear on. It was quite a small room so trying to take my jacket off etc as quietly as possble only to realise I was wearing a pretty scruffy (but warm) jumper underneath! The Chair was quite reasonably a little p*ssed off that two or three of us had arrived late and told us to introduce ourselves when we spoke so when I did I gave my name and said i represented the motorcyclists lobby which raised a laugh or two. At the end of the meeting it tunerd out that the bloke next to me whom I'd not met before had just bought a Harley and wanted to discuss what he could do to stop his mates laughing at him...

I have found turning up in the gear a good ice-breker generaly and helps people to remember you but I guess it depends on what world you work in.

Forgot to add I get a £650 per month car allowance (no car) but I had too supply details of the wifes 8 year old Ford Scorpio to qualify for that and a fully expensed fuel card that I can use on any of my bikes :D

I used to be a sub contractor working in all the police and fire stations in London. It could mean possibly visiting 4 or 5 sites in a day. I used my bike all the time for this. It was by far the easiest way of getting to all of them in time. If a site had a particular problem I could get to site and fix it so much more quickly than if I were in the car. The boss still paid car milage.

Now my job is different and more or less I am stuck at my desk. If the situation arises that I need to visit a site, I will still use the bike rather than a company vehicle. I still get the same milage rate as a car. So that's OK.

Bike or a BT van :?

I've only done it a couple of times. I considered doing it regularly, but poor mileage allowance (for personal cars) let alone bikes means it barely covers your petrol, let alone tyres and servicing.

Clients aren't too bothered about us turning up in leathers, a colleague has dones it for years.

I have done it a few times, well more than a few, only snag is the company I work for have a sceme that puts bikes in high risk section, as such they won't fund you unless your 60 plus and ride on the most un-used roads in the UK! :?

Still I clain back fuel costs in other ways that they can't catch onto

I do quite a lot, several times a week, sometimes little ity bits others more substantial.

I don't get expenses for it but put all my petrol on the company card. Have never really worked it out but guess I do quite well out of it.
