If you want to emulate the racers, you have to go through the lookin like an idiot hanging off a near vertical bike, to get to the point where it is natural enough that you can concentrate on picking the speed up rather than consciously moving about the bike, its for the better in the long term, but you do look a birk in the meantime!!

Been there done that, I actually find it really hard to sit still now, didn’t really think about it, but if/when I take a pillion this then becomes apparent when there is @rse-leg bumpage problems!!

Hmm, wouldn't say so... It'd depend on the position of the sliders though I suppose. On my FT trousers, for me to get the whole thing down would having the leg stuck out just about at right angles and my knee pointing right at the road- that would mean designing my riding position around getting the knee down, like a Ride journalist :) While getting the outside down for me comes as a side effect of weight redistribution, where my knee's low because my body's low, not because it's stuck out for miles.

I guess that makes sense - sounds like your velcro patches are fairly far forward/round. my FT's have them pretty much on the side, so to be getting them down flat I'd need to be leant a really long way over with my leg barely stuck out at all

northwind 17-09-06 07:34 PM

Ah, yep, I get you then.

I suppose I'm quite biased here. I never went out and tried to do it, I just went around shifting the weight more and more till eventually the ground was just there... I never really thought "I'll do it like Rossi" or whatever, or saw getting it down as an end in itself. It just came with going faster.

Can't do it so much any more, mind... Can't get around the bike like I used to, and I've slowed down doo. Ah well.

Funny that virtually all of the Spanish guys I ride with hardly use any knee or shifting across on the bike for fast cornering. I have always been a shift half my butt across with knee out kind of style. Sitting centrally makes me feel the bike is gonna fall in on itself to me.

My Police man buddy,(ex 2nd in Andalucian Superbike Championship) is quick.....damned quick much quicker than me or anyone else I know, and he uses a style more like mine but his sliders are like shop new.

I have nver tried or achieved getting my knee down. 8)
