You've done it now my friend. I will be picking your brain for years to come!

No problem! Don't mind helping out at all!

Checkout www.blur.com (I'm sure you know of them) they exclusively use Max for most of their projects. allthough I'm sure they have a host of custom scripts! What do you use for your profession and in what industry do you work (games, advertising etc)?

Started off in TV advertising, music videos + long-form TV (2 years), Now working in Feature Films (3 years)

I am starting to use Maya as it seems more capable for animation but it's a real steep learning curve, especially the node based architecture and that Hypershade!!

I use Maya exclusively and have done for sometime. Max, Lightwave etc are fine to learn some of the concepts and principles, but the TV and film industries pretty much use just May or XSI, but mainly Maya. I think games use Max, but I don't really know.

Oh and of course any advice you can give would be most welcome, I'd love to work as a 3d artist. Don't have any formal training in art or design at all but I do enjoy it and have a passion for it.

Training isn't really an issue - One chap who works here as a senior compositor/supervisor used to be in the circus, while another did low-level programming in an unrelated industry, learnt Maya at home and got a lucky break. His was a little luckier than most though. The person I sit next next to has worked in games for the past 10 years, yet has joined us a month ago doing matchmoving (A job that many people do as an entry to the industry). Swings and roundabouts I guess, but one thing is for sure - qualifications don't really mean anything, it's a showreel that counts!
If you want to know anything then, best PM me
