Avoid this like the plague folks - ADSL is cut-throat - prices will be down to £10/month with higher bandwidth while you are still stuck with slow speed on a slow PC in 18 months time

Good luck finding an ADSL without a 12 mth minimum period - Talk talk is 18 mths still fairly reasonable to me.

Bit unfair as they do promise to upgrade you to 24 meg when available. (Not that I recommend the deal at all)

Loads of monthlies - its only the cheap (carp) ones that have tie-ins

Why are they carp - well if they are not getting money in to maintain/upgrade the network, then it only gets worse - and then there are the download caps - when you want to download 5 GB of movies you have bought online, but can only download 3GB.

ADSL is a minefield of tie-ins (if prices drop you are stuffed) limitations on what you can do oe paying for the service.

Not an easy choice (says the guy with 2 ADSL lines :P)

I was with Virgin when I was renting, seemed the safest option with the one month rolling thing. With Tiscali now, still waiting for them to get their asses in gear with the ADSL Max!

This is an interesting subject. I'm 'tied in' to an 18 month contract with Talk Talk which suits me down to the ground.

I don't download much by way of music /video content, so having the maximum speed isn't a priority. If I really want to break the contract it'll set me back £70, but given that I'm paying only £20 for line rental, all calls and 2mb broadband, I'll be pretty much be up on the deal.

When I asked this lot how they can offer me a service when BT can't. They advice they use BT wholesale and are not using any LLU service

so in my case they then declined to provide the service they said they could deliver.
