Re: What would you pay for this?(R reg Transalp)
Here's the latest after looking at it a bit more without letting him see me and so guess that I wan't to buy it:
R reg, 24K miles, no tax (or MOT I'd guess), engine bars, body looks ok, pannier holders-iffy, centre stand, tyres bit squared off, no screen and the exhaust is looking very dodgy. Chain looks ok but I didn't see the rear sprocket. :) |
Re: What would you pay for this?(R reg Transalp)
I don't reckon it's worth very much at all.
It.s nearly ten years old,and it's not up and running and on the road. It's not worth money as a "classic" so it's basically an old banger that needs work.Tread carefully. |
Re: What would you pay for this?(R reg Transalp)
Well he was using it daily to commute before he got a brand new VFR which got nicked and he now has a company car, so I know it has been used regularly. I'd rather get a bike that I know where it's been and sort of know the owner. I think I'll see him tonight. I won't go much more than I have said.

Re: What would you pay for this?(R reg Transalp)
Right. I've spoken to him and he says he wants about 500 for it. Says it needs exhaust (I'd get a welder to repair it if possible), back brake unbound (seized?), seat recovered, bty side panel? and a general service. Says chain and sprocket and pads are new. Front tyre has about 2K miles left and rear is quite new and Scottoiler needs flushing. What do we say? I could always flog the engine bars and pannier racks after a coat of paint to help pay for it. I'd be happy to what work I could myself-service, brake (if it needs unseizing) and other stuff. That's what I want it for really.
Going to see him tomorrow after work. :) |

For starters, replacement exhaust down pipes(cos that's what you'll be doing. Right? ;) ), you'll be looking at about £300 assumming Motad or similar do one for it. Then you have the other bits plus others you may come upon(there is always something you miss). I'll say with all that need doing/replacing, I'll say offer £400. £300-£350 would have been better but don't want to take the pish now, do we? :) . Well you could start at £350 and go to maximum of £400 :smt003 As said before try and hear it running as well. If all is plane sailing , "all in", you should come out at under/well under £700-£800. I was gonna go to 400 anyway. I know it's a ll a big game. HELP! |
Re: What would you pay for this?(R reg Transalp)
Update:
It has a full service history (Have yet to see it), exhaust isn't blowing or holed, he has the screen and battery which must be knackered now and the rear wheel is shot-been quoted £80 by a breaker. AND I've offered him £400 if it goes ok when I whack the SV battery on it if it'll go. Fuel isn't off so I can't see any probs. If it's had it's 24K service then it should be a good deal. Will need a good old tinker though if it hasn't.Bloke at Honda dealer near me said it'd be worth £1500! What do you think peeps? :) |
