Re: Out of ideas on this......help please.
Going to the local stealer in the morning.....he recons he will be able to find the fault....Thanks for the choke idea, i wouldn't have thought of that, i does feel relatively free but who can tell!!!!..
If he doesn't find it...I gona get the carbs balanced, fit a new starter relay and free up the choke cables. If that don't work...gona bang my head on the wall lol... I'll let you all know... |

Re: Out of ideas on this......help please.
Just an update....Had the carbs balanced....It didn't make the slightest difference!!!!!
Have phoned Micron and they say they make thier exhausts to match the jetting on the standard bike so can't be that either.... Time to strip the whole thing down and have a real good look, just can't think what else it could be!!!!!!! |
Re: Out of ideas on this......help please.
Being a scrouge I tend to avoid buying anything unless I can positivly identify that it's broke.
You can throw a lot of cash at a bike randomly on seemingly good ideas before getting the right point. Check out the plugs to see the colours, black as night is too much fuel and points to a stuck choke. the choke cable for the SV splits 2/3 of the way down and water tends to run down to the front carb and corrode the choke plunger, worth a look. |
Re: Out of ideas on this......help please.
well in that case
1. check the spark- if thats ok theres no electrical problem 2. detach the fuel line after the fuel pump - is there fuel getting there? 3. consider a colourtune sparkplug. They're great for viewing the burn colour at different revs carb'd engines are pretty straight forward, (although not always!) maybe post your location as someone may be willing to help :) |
Re: Out of ideas on this......help please.
i've just had same symptoms on my curvy 2000 it would start ok but when revved it it would sound like the engine was being slightly retarded as if the timing was out then at about 5 thousand rpm would start poppin. i went through all the fuel options and renewed plugs checked for spark all seemed ok then an a friend suggested coil breaking down under load so I bought a set on the forum replaced the rear coil tested it and problem cured bike back to norm .worth the small cost to buy them from a broken bike just to check.
good luck |
Re: Out of ideas on this......help please.
I know this sounds unlikely, but it could be the regulator/rectifier not doing one or the other. On a previosu bike of mine when it went, the revs hit about 4-5000 and it cooked half of the ignitor box. When the revs came back down again it would only spark on one cylinder until I put a new box on. Disconnect the RR, it will be fine as a short test. Also it's not the foam under the tank falling into the air intake is it? I had that too, but at higher revs.
