Re: Should I buy a SV650
Fair enough! Anyway, you wont go wrong with teh restricted SV. You said something about being worried about handling the extra power? Dont worry - its not intimidating. I was worried but found the bike easy to ride - just take it easy for a bit until you get used to the extra weight!
Good luck, Matt |
Re: Should I buy a SV650
Cheers Matt,
I wonder what the max speed is restricted and unrestricted What's the mpg for a SV650? My XR does 70mpg + |
Re: Should I buy a SV650
Well I've had 95 mph, it'll go faster but its not worth the effort!

unrestricted about 130 (as above) BUT ,,,,,,the biggest difference is in the acceleration ,when the 33 brake bike runs out of puff about7000 revs(ish) ,the other one keeps on pulling that bit harder/longer(oeerrr) and the mpg depends if you ride it hard or not ,say about 50mpg if you nurse it ,or about 30!! if youre a bit rev happy ,.a full tank of juice in my old curvey(un restricted)got about 120 miles average (90 to 150 mile) but theres loads of factors. this will open a can of worms with some people saying they recorded 145mph and all that ,but whatever it was fast enough for me .im riding a cbr 600 now and its VERY fast(160ish mph and 0 60 in about 3 odd seconds, its quite scary sometimes) ,but the sv is enough for most ,itll blow away most cars anyway:cool: |
Re: Should I buy a SV650
I'd defo do it - excellent price, paid slightly more for my 03 bought new! Got mine after passing my DAS (also in 30's) and I've got no complaints.

Re: Should I buy a SV650
At one dealer they said they would put the restrictor kit in (an electronic one) and keep my original one until the 2yrs were up and then put the original / an unrestricted kit in.
I never mentioned this at the dealers I may buy from but surely if I'm paying for the kit I should retain the original after all its part of the original bike and my property. What do members think please? |
Re: Should I buy a SV650
I think you should request to keep it; in two years, alot could happen - the shop could close, the shop could loose the part, the shop could take new ownership who may be hassle becausr they dont know you etc etc

Re: Should I buy a SV650
if you buy a brand spank one....be prepared for the depreciation. Remember as soon as you take it from the bike shop....its lost a fair bit of money. I bought mine on an 04 plate for £2400...and hopefully its done with the depreciation.
Whatever you decide... I am sure you will enjoy it. |

Make sure you get crash bungs fitted Polarman, and no way would I let the dealer keep the original ECU. |
Re: Should I buy a SV650
Go for it Polarman! If you're anything other than a fair weather rider you might have some issues with the front cylinder failing due to water ingress but a search on here will reveal all the answers to that one. :)
The deal sounds good too, no hassle and cheap as chips. Try that at your local Honda dealer! And definitely keep all YOUR original parts. See you soon :riding: |
