My Curvey S has standard naked gearing ie 45 on the back.
I find this much more useful than the standard S gearing. As I don't seem to need 130mph top speed. :roll:
Anyone else done this?

Pretty much, but I opted for 46 teeth on the rear. I commute so tend not to need straight line speed (not that much of it anyway).

I'd rather beat that car off the line a lot easier.

Is it just me, or does the S with the standard gearing get through the gears in no time anyway? I mean, first is so short anyway (compared with "proper" sports bikes) you're only in it for a brief moment, and if you're revving it like you're really trying, then you never drop out of the powerband.
The only instance I can see it being useful, is for the ultra slow corners where you don't really want to drop to first because it is so short.

Problem with B&C is that they don't do Supersprox which I quite liked the idea of, and once again I'm now not sure whether to go with a full ally rear or stick with the Supersprox one :???:

Another thing I've read quite a lot is that putting a 46 on the back also makes the standard chain length of 108 very tight. Does this mean that there is no slack at all? As I don't like the sound of that too much.....

Would it be ok with the standard 108 or would I be better off going to 110?

I don't honestly know on teh chain size issue. Supersprox are a great idea but not really any better than regular steel ones, just lighter (which in the amounts we're talking about here is irrelevant). Renthal's hardened ally are far and away the best alloy sprockets out there, but they're still softer than steel and will usually give roughly half as many miles in my experience- and you need to look after the chain more as a worn chain will destroy the rear sprocket.

B&C Express do DID I think, which is the OE and a very good match of price and life IMO. I use Renthal though, because I'm a tart and because over 15000 miles I don't really mind the wear difference, I don't do the miles I used to. Also, they'll make absolutely anything for you, which is nice.

As far as gearing, I'm back on standard, just using up some old parts, I did have the naked gearing for a while. It doesn't make that much difference to me really since bikes have clutches :) Though I did stall at a lot of traffic lights at first. It was quite nice for the big AR mile munches though. Not sure what I'll do next time.

I have no idea what standard length my chain is/was, but I went standard (K6 SV650S) front sprocket, up two on the rear (46 teeth), and kept the standard length chain.

It fit, only just. There is a LITTLE slack, but not an awful lot. It leaves a lot of room for adjustment though.
