Re: How much should be paid?
My folks charge my brother £150 per month. He's doing the same kind of thing and has about the same amount left each month.

Re: How much should be paid?
Work out based on his gross annual salary multiplied by 3.5 what an 'average' sized mortgage lender would say he could comfortably afford to borrow.
Use online calculator to work out monthly mortgage payments on that amount, and make him pay that, plus contribution to bills/food etc. That way you're not making him pay any more than he'd have to if he bought his own place, and both you and he will KNOW he can afford to pay it, and that it's fair. That's what I'd do, anyway. |
Re: How much should be paid?
Well my mum asked for £30 a week from us kids, to cover food, I think thats reasonable :)

Re: How much should be paid?
Id say £50 a week would be fair, food aint cheap neither are utilities.

Re: How much should be paid?
5 quid a day... soon adds up over a month...

Re: How much should be paid?
No wonder kids never leave home. Take it all and give him pocket money.

Re: How much should be paid?
£30 a week for food, i can imagine how much a growing boy eats. £10 gas and electric, might encourage him to switch off his tv, cd player, switch off lights etc. £10 for incidentals. £50 a week which is £200 a month leaves him £400 a month which is plenty. offer to put £100 a month away from his change towards his own house. still leaves him £300 a month to play with. I would love £300 a month to play with.

Re: How much should be paid?
My second daughter has just started work after A levels. We didn't know what level to start charging at either. We've gone for £100/month. Sounds like she's getting off too lightly! Especially as she's just gone and bought herself a brand new Fiesta on an HP agreement, which I discover my missus has guaranteed. :smt013

Re: How much should be paid?
Back in medieval times when I started an apprenticeship at age 16 my weekly wage was 16 quid. I gave a tenner to my mum and cycled 5 miles each way to work so that I could squirrel the other 6 quid so that I could buy my 250 Kawasaki when I hit 17.
Y'know I woiuld do it all over again.:) |
