Re: Repair estimate & insurance...your thoughts!!
Check your policy carefully. Some policies automatically replace a new bike if the repairs are beyond a set limit ( about 50% IIRC).
Otherwise I'd strongly complain to the insurance company with proof that a new one can be purchased for a sum so close to the repair estimate, plus they will then have the salvage (such as it is). Also say there may well be a delay whilst they source the parts. |

Re: Repair estimate & insurance...your thoughts!!
Afternoon all.
Insurance companies are fickle buggers to deal with at the best of times, however you don't say if you have any excess on the policy, if you have say a £250 excess it brings the cost to them down to £1445. Also as salvage values are considerably less on smaller bikes, they're unlikely to recap much from it should they write it off. Hence their decision to repair it. Cheers. |

For my 2-penneth worth, it does seem strange that they wont write it off.
The only thing I would be careful of is, as the bike was so new, and carefully cared for by you, you want to make sure that there are NO scratches to the frame or engine cases which the assessor may have thought weren't caused by the accident. I.e. you dont want to get the bike back with a new front end, tank etc, only to find that they didnt replace the engine covers because they assumed that the damage was present before the accident. You have probably thought of that, and I hope you are on the mend... BB. |
