Go for it!!!
The R1 is the best bike I've ridden. Awesome.
Just be sensible & take it easy, especially wi the throttle.
6th gear will give enough acceleration to overtake a line of cars.

Enjoy & report back.

:p

Your insurance cover will only be third party I reckon.

Those early R1's were more animals and less refined and watch out for the brakes................. They work!

If you can afford to buy him one back, do it.

I would go for it - I always think its good to try as many bikes as you can - I keep a spreadsheet of all the bikes I have ridden and what I thought of them

Just got back - what a rush.

I'm surprised at just how useable it felt, granted it is a sunny day, but it felt like it would quite happily commute.

It felt light, really tight despite its age, manoeverable and most of all the noise and speed were awsome even though I kept the revs down below 7k. Just a shame it had no petrol and I went out with no money so fun ended soon.

Is that how the GSXR series feel, useable?

I was so surprised that something so monsterously fast would feel that way.

the physical size of it worried me but once I got on it, it felt comfortable and easy to move around on than the SV.........

Well done you.

I'd happily chop off a limb for an 04 onwards R1, best looking jap bike ever.
Erm, except i'd need my arm back to use it. ;)
