Personally, I'd quite happily go back to the prices of 98/99 for both, but it ain't going to happen. :(

Memories are great but then memories can be made inside a house that you sell for 3 times the amount 15 years later...

I cant see house prices going as mad as they did from 2002 on till now but hopefully, they wont drop too far either.

Fuel is just a stupid price at the moment though.
There have been articles in the papers where low earners have had to give up jobs as they cannot afford to travel by car and public transport is not always an option :(

The OH filled his Landcruiser up last week - over £100!! And the guy at the till even had the nerve to laugh... :smt067

It has reached silly prices - you really have to think bout the journeys you make now. At £45 a time I'm finding it hard to make regular visits to see my folks with the little 'un...

Looks like it will be the DRZ for commuting when I go back to work - cheap(er) & cheerful! If it goes up much more I'll be back on a CG125

I wouldn't bet too much on there being no big crash - food has already gone up, as has petrol.

It seems the ONS has been misrepresenting inflation to the Bank of England, so looks like interest rates are going to rise after all these times.

So people feeling it tight now are going to feel it tighter.

Once a glut of houses start to hit the market then prices will suffer, especially when the sellers cant wait for the right offer.

I even doubt £2 a litre would make much difference.

Good point. If we stopped buying the stuff the price would go down.

Sorry mate, I wasnt clear.

I cant see them going mad increasing in value again.

I'm not foolish enough not to realise that they will depreciate.

Yes.Anyone with an ounce of sense knew house prices were far too high years ago and they hav'nt come down that much since. Therefore they are still too high and will eventually come down to levels where people on normal money can afford to buy them again.Certainly the case anywhere in the southern half of the country,or anywhere there is work.

I would love to be able to walk or cycle to work though :(

Stop buying knob end tickets then.

I can get to London for £6 normally, or even a pound if i'm lucky.

Im on a respectable wage, not great, but its not bad. Sure half my wage goes into my house, but I see people who you know havent got much cash, driving round in big 4x4 3.0 TDs from the 90's, or big 3.0 v6 petrols, and I think, how the hell do they run them? Fuel tax etc? Yet I complain about the Bandit doing 45mpg

Only cars in my list are VW Lupos/Seat arosa, or a Smart car? I dont think I could afford to run anything else (ok 106 1.5D, but no, just no)

Oh believe me, we ain't rollin in it.
Its costing a pretty penny for Peg to get to and from work in the car, its absolute rubbish weather for the bike here, and in fairness I'd rather him fall down a pothole in the Freelander in the dark than on the bike....the shear size of them is enormous!
We love that car, its great for a lot of reasons, but we're looking to sell it on later in the year. Been looking at the New Fabia Estate vRS, 45 to the gallon combined mileage, 120 tax(thats six months for the poofwaggon).....and a 1.4, 180BHP car:p Thats almost as much BHP as Pegs bike:cool:, oh and a boot big enough to hide a cow in :)
My dads actually coughing up 250 a month to get to work and back, the majority going up in smoke, in the Leeds traffic jams on the M62...fiding novel roads to get home quicker is a little game of his.

..

I bought my house for 35k in 2000, now its worth 89k...although I doubt I'll see it going for that, either way, we're lucky to have a large lump of equity in it....some people are finding their houses in the negative when they're trying to sell up these days.

Flinstone cars possibly,my first car was a 1947 Rover 14[My uncle had a scrapyard and that's where all my cars came from while I was an apprentice]
The Rover 14 had a freewheel system on the gearbox, much the same as a pushbike ,when you stopped peddling to save energy it rolled along. The Rover worked on the same idea, lift your foot off the accelerator and it went into freewheel mode,no engine braking.

Some of the old ideas could be used as fuel saving innovations today, the cost on brakes is minimal compared to the price of fuel.

Or just get a company fuel card. It's brilliant.

I remember the fuel protests, I ended up doing all the parts deliverys for the garage I worked for... J reg 1.1 pug 205, it was the only car available that could use LRP/4 star and that was all we could reliably find, naturally my boss picked up the fuel bill and also let me fill it (from bone empty) another twice when it was all back to normal as a thankyou.

My current car is on LPG and thats rocketing in price, from £17 a fill to £28.... Really fancying a old atom smasher (mechanical injection diesel) and run it on veg oil.

Ah, the diesel solution. Let's all go out and get lacklustre carcinogenic spewing oil burners just because the range is better and the government have decided CO2 is more evil than satan's farts. Not to mention half of the crap ends up belched on the roads and then us lot have to dodge it.
