I'm afraid that's the inverse reciprocating reverser diodes on their way out... Not economic to repair on the SV, the parts alone cost £10000. Tell you what, since it's you I'll cut you a deal and give you £50 scrap for the bike?

Dang, I knew it was something real bad.

Anyway.. the video I posted.. http://www.cwimedia.co.uk/other/misc/sv650smoke.wmv

Hi mate
Best bet to check if its rings, is to get to a guy to do a compression test, this way it will elliminate or diognose the problem, sholdnt be more than an hours work! the other thing i discovered is the oile never used to show itsekf in the glass, some times it did if i left it on the padock stand for a night but there are soo many cravaces for the oil to hide in, it takes a long time to fall back down!! hth Alex |
I give up checking oil now or whatever, I don't know.. just going to get my mate to do oil and filter change, check spark plugs, check airbox, filter and breather line to make sure it's nothing simple, then do a compression test.. I'm selling the bike either way but hopefully it's nothing expensive to fix, it's a gorgeous bike in excellent condition and I'll be real ****ed off if I have to lose money on a nice bike just because the piston rings are worn

like I previously posted, mine smokes, some on startup, not all the time, I am not concerned, I keep my eye on the oil, the engine runs fine otherwise, i'ts not scaring me to take off on my annual bike holiday next month. my Sv has smoked like that on occasion for the past 2 years |
could be just a mix of condensation in the exhaust and running rich on the choke, if it doesnt do it when its warm i wouldnt worry about it, but keep a closer eye on your oil level, check it every other day to see how much its actually using, if its using a lot then i would start to worry
and the reason that wheelies kill sv's is because the pick-up is near the front of the engine, so when the bikes on the back wheel all the oil drains away from the pick-up, but most cases of this kills the conrod shells and main bearings as i recall |
oh yeah, check inside your airbox for excess oil, if you fill up too much then it travels up the breather and into the airbox, then the carbs will suck it in causing blue smoke....just another area to check
