I am most annoyed.

I finish on Friday and will be back into work on 2nd January. What annoys me is we are forced to take the 4 days off between Christmas and the New Year. These 4 days are taken from our holiday entitlement. Meaning we MUST save 4 days each year for this period. So the 25 days holiday we get is actually 21 days.

I would have normally worked over these 4 days and used the 4 days in the Summer.

Grrrrr. :smt076

Yeah me too. It means I've only got 4 days off until April now :( Seems unfair when the factory is shut over Christmas! :(

Same here, but it looks as if I might be the only one in my team who comes back on the 2nd. So I might 'work from home' that week :D

Tis a way of managing down the number of summer holiday requests. If everyone had twice as much time off over the summer then the place would be difficult to run.

I'm closing until 3 Jan, and I insist that the team take it as holiday, for precisely that reason.

Although I know this practice is widespread and I kinda understand the bosses perspective, it seems to me that this is most unfair. Dictating when your staff HAVE to take their holiday entitlement defeats the object of vacation days. If you want to close your business down for a period then it should not come out of staff's holiday entitlement. It is akin to the recently outlawed practice of including Bank Holidays as part of an employee's holiday entitlement.

Sorry Ed, not directed at you personally.

I have 5 days off over xmas, which are xmas eve and day, 2 days in the middle and new years day. I'm working this w/end as well...sigh

So not much time off really.

Also have a think about the guys who are working away from their loved ones over xmas, I have to work but at least I get 2 days with them.

Effecitvely finish today (okay, working at home xmas eve morning, but I can't see many calls coming in!) and go back on the 7th. I'm not on call at all over the holidays this year, either I am really looking forwards to it. I don't think I could work a job where I had to cover xmas/NYE again.
