Swore blind i'd stop, did for 2 1/2 years.

Stopped again in Jan this year (the thought of Bear applying croc clips to my nipples didnt really figure in it too much honest :P)

All joking and frippery aside, if YOU want to stop, then you simply do stop.

All the pills and potions in the world won't help you stop if you don't really want to.

(PS I did try champix, has taken me 2 and a half months to start to get ogver the side effects, looks like im on steroids for another 2 or 3 months to get rid of the last side effect tho!)

+1, go cold turkey, it's the only way....
Nicotine cravings are gone in a week or so, after that it's just breaking an old habit.

I became smoke free after my internal pump misfired a few times ( 2002) and then decided to go back to the evil weed 3 years ago and have managed to be Nicotine free since July last year went from 25-30 a day to 0 becuase I WANTED to and also due to a nagging daughter wanting me to live a little longer.

It's Bl***y hard and don't let anyone tell you any different but slow and steady you can do it if YOU want to, good luck and hope you do manage to kick the habit.

So far my ex-habit has funded a Nintendo Wii, a skiing holiday and a few games for my PSP

I'm now on 7 weeks, and the money I saved is going towards finance of my new bike (~?120+/month!). Makes it so much easier having an incentive :)

... but word of warning to anyone wanting to try anything like champix, just be aware and look into all the side effects first.

I set myself a date (whenever i finished my 1000 duty-free) and said that was me stopping. That was maybe 3 months to get my head straight before I finished.

ALL my mates smoke. ALL my mates said "You can't do it". Wanted to stop on my own terms before the ban came in up here.

Bought a 2nd bike (k3) with the money saved...... and met all you good folk!:D

Now when riding out with my mates its a real pain in the **** having to stop every 20mins cos they need a fag.:rolleyes:

So get yer head straight and don't waste your money on "crutches".

That helps big time....

I was standing outside the office when a colleague (who I didn't like very much) was telling over exaggerated stories about a friend having such a hard time trying to quit and how she could never do it. Being an argumentative b***std (I'm not always but she really used to wind me up this girl), I told her she was talikng b0ll0cks. She got angry and told me I couldn't do it. I told her I wasn't wasting my newly opened packet of twenty, but that would be my last packet. It was my last packet and that's how I quit.

No wonder my wife says I'm stubborn as a mule! :grin:

Good for you Ralph, my father also did quit after the family doctor made him sh*t in his pants saying if he doesn't stop...
He started smoking when 12 and stopped at 40, now 66 and can't stand anyone smoking near him or anywhere else. Never liked the smoke myself, used to try to look cool with a fag in the mouth as a youth. Anything to impress the ladies right? The wife smokes though, tries to hide the stink by chewing gum all the time. It worked for a long time but now nothing can disguise the stench. Told her to stop for all the reasons but she always finds her own excuses to go on. Her recent number is that the fags help her to sh*t once a day. She has this digestive problem you see. To make matters worse the family doc told her that they actually do, since tobacco is like poison to the body and so the body tries means to rid of it. I guess that's why he's a smoker then!

I ride motorcycles far faster than I ought to, I've had two heart attacks (one minor, one major, both attributed to a hereditary heart condition) and a mini-stroke (attributed to being overstressed at work and my heart condition) and I love thrill-seeking - the risk of me dying from a smoking related illness is minimal. I enjoy having a smoke

Haven't strictly given up but have stopped for 6 months before. Just decided to one day and that was it. Even left a full pack in my glovebox just to prove to myself that I didn't need them. Took it up again due to depression.

Will give it up someday, but I don't want to at this precise time.
