Bizarre.

Might take you up on the offer Nick although I'm no electrician/electronic geek. :)

It's good to see that you got it fixed. Hopefully it'll continue for as long as it did on mine.

Yer the mileometer works double time on mine as well as the trips but the fuel light seems fine. My dads got the same model SV as mine so when he gets his back from having a new can fitted ill swop the spedo drives round then i can find out if thats the problem.

Finally got round to checking the speedo rota today. Took the calipers off, gently lowered the wheel off to find a slightly worn rota. Looks still usable to me, so may be a wiring /electrical fault. I took a photo just in case and started putting the wheel back on...

... Only to find it impossible to get one of the calipers back on the discs. ...and now the right hand side brake pad has come off and swings round from the base of the caliper like a hand on a clock. (it's still attatched, but only at one end)

So does anyone know if there is a simple fix, or do i need new pads or a whole new caliper??? If so roughly how much will a brake pad or caliper cost me???:(

Only one side of one of the pads is attached, it just kind of clips under a bit of metal. Never touch the brakes with the calipers off, just try to push the pistons back apart a bit to get it back on the disc.

Oh, ok. I have tried to push them as far apart as possible but the gap is not large enough to slide them over the disc. If i push one end of the pad further from the other pad it pinches at the top and won't fit on. It's very fustrating.:smt102

Well a mechanic got a massive pair of tyre irons and prised them apart with full force on mine, but that was with pads to be thrown away as that probably knackers the pads (and it shot brake fluid out of the reservoir!). Someone must have a cunning trick to spread them apart safely! I think me and Phill used some screw drivers. Not sure how to do it without ruining the pads sadly sorry.

I was told by a friend tonight that the reason was because the reservoir is leaving no space for the fluid to push back to. So if i take the lid off the reservoir i will be able to prize them apart and fit them back round the discs. This sounds logical to me and i'll give it a go in the morning.

I'll try just seperating them with my hands. Is that wise???

I think that it won't work with your hands, you need more leverage or power. But you don't want to touch the insides of the pads much. I really don't know, I wish someone else would post as I am no expert!
