Re: right hand goes numb

It's interesting that others also get numb right hands, but not left.
When I was riding today I paid a bit more attention to my grip on the bars and I noticed that I definitely grip slightly tighter with the right. My personal view is that the snatchy v-twin nature of the SV and it's crap on-off fueling (Injected models anyway) means that I grip the throttle slightly tighter as I try to adjust it really really smoothly. It's not a problem I've had on previous bikes, but then they've all had better fueling characteristics.
My solution is to buy a better bike which I'll be doing as soon as funds allow.

Loosen your grip a bit.

A sort of linked question - because I did have numbness in my hand, I've been gripping the tank between me knees. Now my tank is getting all scuffed/scratched - I have a tank pad on but it's no use. Any ideas?

I've got a Bagster tank cover but don't like it and am selling it.

that started to happen on my tank aswell when i just had a protector up the spine of the tank. the solution was to get protectors around the sides aswell. you can get sheets of clear vinyl or whatever it is that you can stick on, or the strips and dots which i have on mine :D

Tankslappers or similiar would do the job nicely, as well as making the knee-gripping easier.

Re: right hand goes numb

when i first started riding i ended up with carpal tunnel syndrome for a few hours after but it stopped after a few weeks. i still get a numb right hand/sometimes just the fingers. I find if I'm having a bit of a thrash, i get the numbness. When I relax and bimble along i don't tend to get it as much. As far as I can tell it's because I'm gripping the throttle quite hard without realising.

A few people have recommended fitting thicker grips (oxford hot hands should be a good option apparently) but I've not got round to it yet. If I do get a numb hand, i wait till iv got a bit of space between me and the car in front, take my hand off the throttle and waggle & bend my fingers quickly for about 5-10 seconds. Tends to help :)
