I got very close to getting a Westfield (Wide bodied K-series) before I got my first bike. Then I spoke to my uncle who is a lotus fanatic (restores and makes a fortune on them). He borrowed a caterham for a couple of weeks and it put him off. Basically he said it has all of the drawbacks of a bike (cold, wet, no storage, only one passenger, bit dangerous) but apart from a fairly nippy acceleration none of the advantages (can't filter, can't see anything ahead apart from the numberplate of the car in front so overtakes not as pelntyful, no where near as quick 30-90, can't stick it in a small space in the garage, can't park for free in town on a Saturday etc etc ) so he kept his fleet of slightly bigger lotuses and got a motorbike instead.

Probably get back into mountain biking instead and lose some of the spare tyre I carry around. Will also allow me to get some use out of the bullet cam and solid state recorder which I ordered the other day to use when I take trainees out (IAM stuff) and hasn't even arrived yet :(

Ah, he forgot one vital piece though - it passes underneath the wife's "danger, danger!" radar... ;)

I have only driven one for a day at Silverstone (not on track) in a drift day sort of thing (not really a drift day - just a bit of fun with a coned out course).

But the way I feel about them is that on the nippy country lanes, etc, I wouldn't want to be in a big, bulky, "normal" car - a bike preferably, but the caterham is a good compromise. Also they have enough to be able to overtake other cars much more easily than "normal" cars, although not as easily as bikes!

They have the upside of a bit of ****-out action being possible, a lot more skill required for that on a bike ;)

I'm only thinking from a cars/bikes POV though, if a mountain bike satisfies your passion then you're sorted, that's a lot cheaper...
