http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/

get on there its mostly for bank charges but they deal with all sorts of things.
its all free and its some very good advice.
i've had a problem with debt collection agencys for something like your post above, phone calls all the time to both home, mobile and work. some of them sound quite nasty, to try and get you to pay up. there is a template letter on that site (and i have an altered copy for the situation i was in if you want a copy) for a thing called a Consumer Credit Act request. its a great bit of legislation! basicly they have to provide you with legal documents showing that you owe them money. like the original signed credit agereement. they have something like 30 days to do this. if they don't they have commited a criminal offence and failure to comply is a complete defence in court for not giving them any money that they say you owe. you can also request that any comunication be in writing. if they then contact you in any other way it is classed as harassment under the Wireless Telegraphy Act (1949)

seriously check out the site above! it will give you all the answers and support you could possibly want!

Re: Do NOT buy from Bennetts Insurance

I do not understand this.

firstly I have used Bennetts and even had a bike written off whilst covered by them. Service from them as broker was good. After my no fault smash I got my renewal without any NCD, I queried it and the girl said she would check with the underwriters and phone me back. To their credit she did and my NCD was restored. So my experience of them is positive.

Now what I really do not understand. is:-

I have over the past 30 years held insurance policies all over the place. I have never ever cancelled a policy at the end of its term. I might decide not to renew and ask that they provide proof of no claims etc. To my way of thinking cancelling infers that the policy has not run full term.

When you take up a policy, it is a contract, you should have been given the terms and conditions and any cancellation charge identified within those T&Cs. contractual law requires that any penalties be fair. To my way of thinking a cancelation charge would be an unfair penalty if it was to be applied against a policy that had run full term and had been paid in full.

as you say i think it all depends on what the person does, i they contact the insurance company and say they do not wish to renew, that should be that. if you dont say that and the auto new policy stuff starts then you call to cancel, you will get a cancellation fee. its another one of those annoying insurance things to look out for

Ed...class! Timwilky...by "cancellation" I meant expire BUT you have to confirm to them by phone or in writing. All this despite Bennetts having wriiten off the bike and closed the policy.

Anyhoo...had to turn my mobile phone off. Been receiving calls and txts from a company called "CARS" debt recovery and some very threatening tones. They are using multiple mobile phone numbers to my business mobile which is a nightmare because I have to answer just incase its a client. :x

So...speaks to the call centre wifie who gets very aggressive with me. I then I ask to speak to a line manager who then tells me...wait for it... "we will harrass you by txt or phone to your mobile as as long as we like and we get the money" at which point I tell him that the phone call is being recorded and he promptly puts the phone down on me. Brave huh!

Incidentally the txts are totally sick and underhand. I got this one late last night...

"Stuart...can you call me (David Shaw) URGENTLY on 01256 306796"

I instantly thought ****...maybe something's happened to a family member and someone was informing me. So...I called the number straight away then got the cheeky b'stard on the phone. Totally sick tactics!

Wondering if going to the police with this might be of use.

SO...the telephone numbers they are using are below. I'm putting them here incase anyone else gets anything like it and also as a reminder for me incase I lose the txts on my phone.

I googled bennetts sucks etc and it seems I'm not the only person being falsely pursued like this. I'll try and get the linky later.

im sure ofcom would like to hear about this - they deal with all this kind of harrassment from companies doing stupid things.

trading standards too.

bennetts have a bsb sponsorship to pay for so I'd never go with them. Oh and I thought their quote of 900 quid tpft was quite competitive

a cheapo mic plugged into computer line in, a phone with a decent enough quality loudspeaker and a sound recording package will do it.... i've got a spare copy of adobe audition which is amazing at editing sound... you can and chop alsorts seamlessly. Probably not a good idea to edit since they'll record their calls as well but always nice to know :) give me a shout if you need any info

Now that looks like a sure fire way to get yourself in a pile of the proverbial.
