On my second test i just got a mate to give ride me there on my own sv. I didn't mention anything about u turns but the examiner took me to a really wide road to do it. I actually put a foot down but passed anyway. So its up to you. If it were me - id just practise till i could do them anywhere. |
Re: I have a plan so cunning, you could put a tail on it and call it a fox!
My Plan worked, well part one anyway.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha (ad infinitum) I won a dirt cheap 1990 CG125 on E-Bay. :smt040 It is in white and it is some what battered, so I can crash it with out worry and Carol can fix it at my leisure! Just got to go and get it on Saturday from Bournemouth. :smt104 Hmm, now I have to tell herself that she has a bit of a drive at the weekend. A big massive huge hug and Thank you to Lou, who very kindly asked a friend of hers to sell her bike. However this little one is considerably closer, so collecting it will be easy and only take an hour to get to. Then I just have to sort out insurance, road tax for the SV, polish, petrol, Carol's van... Suddenly things seem a bit more on track. Hopefully I will be tested and passed in time for a nice summer of SV abuse! Did I tell you that I love my SV? But not as much as I love Carol who is now going to be teaching me how to ride properly, with out my crashing into Instructors and bashing into walls. Bless her, the poor lass does not know what she is in for! ](*,) |

No worries Jayne, was glad to try and help out. I'm pleased you've found one.
Cheers Lou x |
Re: I have a plan so cunning, you could put a tail on it and call it a fox!
Part two of the plan is now completed.
I bullied Carol into driving a van to Bournemouth today to collect my E-Bay CG125. We arrived on time to the minute despite a minor mishap on my part. Pulling into the services for a wee break, I slipped while getting out of the van and landed on the floor on my right hand. I now have my first two fingers strapped up and cannot grip anything with out a lot of pain, not even a tea cup! :( Once at the shop, I paid the man and Carol and her lovely son loaded the Bike into the van between them. Carol lashed the bike down and then she drove another billion miles back home. To say thank you to them both for the help they have given me today, I treated them to a lovely lunch on the way home. Once back in Weston Wifey and Stepson unloaded the van while I organised... :smt040 Carol gave the start a small kick and the engine fired into life first time. Once around the block to check things out and we find that there is one minor fault. The rear brake light does not work. She offers me the bike and I could not even pull the front brake due to swollen hand. So the bike is now locked in the garage with my SV and Carol's GTR. :smt008 This is starting to look like a habit now, can we afford this many bikes? Next on the list is starting my training again. Carol thinks I could be on the road with in the week and ready for my test in the near future. :-D Once I have passed, we have a new challenge. Carol's pet monster, the GTR 1000. It is in need of a lot of love. Three years of outside parking while off the road has left it in a bit of a depression. It badly needs to see the angry end of a polishing mop and a couple of new bits. However it is a big heavy bike and riding my SV over the summer as shown her that new bikes are pretty fabulous. So a dilema, do we rebuild the GTR 1000 or do we sell it and buy her something smaller and lighter? I think she could be persuaded if we could find an old Zephyr, but then do we just end up swapping one old banger for another? |
Re: I have a plan so cunning, you could put a tail on it and call it a fox!
Well done Jayne, just get on the road as soon as you can, and remember when you pass your test you can keep on the 125 until you feel it's time to move up. Don't beat yourself up straight away (like I did) and think you've got to have a big bike.
Good Luck Lou |

Thank you Lou, that is also the advice given to me by Carol, though she has said she is looking forwards to seeing me riding Silvie as soon as I am ready. :smt040 Oh, it looks like first lesson tomorrow morning. I am so lucky. Just you wait SV land, I will be a real member soon... [-o< |
Re: I have a plan so cunning, you could put a tail on it and call it a fox!
Had my first lesson with Carol yesterday and she was brilliant, even though I am her partner saying this. I got confused over a really silly point and bless her heart she did not call me stupid or sigh and look at the sky. After a few minutes of chat to clarify the point, the light came on and I suddenly understood what she was telling me. It was so simple I felt really stupid and embarrassed. :smt017
After a few rides on Henry (my 18 year old Honda CG125), slow speed control came flooding back and U-Turns are getting easier. Carol picked me up for letting the revs drop too low (I stalled more than a couple of times and felt silly) and once she gave me a few tips I felt much more confident. :riding: Today though we finally had enough. I had an appointment in Bristol with the pain clinic :smt019 and decided that having Silvie in the Garage was too much temptation. She is now taxed and cooling down after a blast to Bristol and back. I had to get her out of the garage and after riding Henry, Silvie seemed some how so much more stable and solid than before. Blasting back along the A-roads home was just the medicine I needed after the hospital visit and once again I got to hold on to to Carol as she piloted us there and back. :smt040 Henry is due his MOT on Friday and Carol thinks he will pass, once we fix the switch on the rear brake light. I fixed up a cracked and broken side panel so he looks much nicer than he did. If all goes to plan, Carol thinks I could be out on the road for real in time for work next week. :smt026 Funny, were it not for Carol, I know that I would not be looking forwards to a fun few months of riding in the new year. I guess I am very lucky in many ways. (:smt055 Love you Kitten xxx) |
