Re: home insurance

The amount is going to depend on what and where.

Have you tried the on-line comparison sites like confused.com? Usually a good starting point to get a feel for the range of quotes.

Directline for me. Also gives us a bit of a discount off our car insurance IIRC. Very good in the event of a claim too. Don't bother with their homecare though; it's gash. British Gas' is much better.

"Well seeing as this waterleak isn't actually causing significant damage to your house right this second and only would if you left it for a few days, we don't deem it an emergency as such, so it doesn't fall under the scope of the agreement."

"Right, well I see why you're upset, your mains keeps tripping out and this has twice caused the contents of your fridge and freezer to spoil whilst you were away. Unfortunately, unless you know what's causing it, we can't send an electrician. Yes I know you need an electrician to diagnose this, but you'll have to pay for one yourself."

"Yes, we can repair your kitchen light, but rather than replace it with a fluoro tube, we can only replace it with a standard bulb. Unless you want to pay the difference."

All 3 examples are from my personal experiences with them. You literally cannot get these ****ers out no matter what goes wrong. At least, not without paying for the privilige, which sort of defeats the point of these sort of insurance policy services (if you were prepared to pay you could just pay for a 24hr electrician/plumber/whatever when things failed).

Directline just sent me a renewal notice for £475!! Confused.com brought up several quotes cheaper, two of them with Privilege who are underwritten by Directline!

One phone call later and Directline have matched the policy and premium from Privilege! Nearly £200 saved from a brief call.
