That's more likely to be a stiff link.

Can a clean and lube fix that or would you say from what info i've provided would need to sort a new chain + sprocket before long?

aye the pics show what appears to be a cink in the chain. get it lubed up properly and cleaned. Also if your changing at low revs and accelerating then you can get alittle hain slap from my experience

Well, done it successfully today, first ever bit of maintenance except cleaning it.

Result: need a new chain and sprockets, one of the links is starting to go red and has siezed if thats the right word, makes a clunking noise and looks on its way out.

scottoiler!
I wish i bought one right away when i got my bike - was always going to but wanted to live with manual maintenance. Get one hooked up to save eating your chain and reduce the cleaning you'll have to do all the time with dry chain lube.

I have a scottoiler, the chain and sprockets are the OEM ones, and the bike now has 18550(maybe a few more) miles on the clock.

I've been quoted £130 for x-ring gold chain and sprockets fitted.

Depending on the brand that's an alright price. If you have a few tools why not do it yourself. I was going to club together a guide when I did mine last but never got round to it. have some pictures but I bet there'd be better guides on the net anyway. I paid just under £90 for a gold xring D.I.D chain and steel sprockets and fitted it meself.

Yeh, I've not booked it in yet as don't have time to take it down at the minute. So might do it myself, I'll have a think rather get it done pro job as I'm not full mechanically minded..

Part of the chain has gone slightly red, hopefully it'll be able to get me a mile up the road with the click noise it makes.

Remember to loosen the rear brake torque bar as this will affect the adjusting
