Your G/F is new to this biking lark and wearing a rucksack is not going to make it fun at all, plus I'm not sure there's room for you to wear one too. Get a rack, and some panniers, even if you have to borrow them.

+1. I would stay in B&Bs and eat out to begin with; gradually migrate towards packing extremely light and carrying all camping gear, etc. Unless you go extremely light (double sleeping bag, tiny tent, etc.) you will struggle to camp and carry cooking stuff with two of you on an SV, unless you get a top box/rack that can be mounted behind the pillion. Panniers and tankbag alone won't hold it all (unless you start going nuts with things like crashbags, storing small items in fairing/underseat, etc.).

I'd avoid getting your pillion to ride with a backpack on until they are used to being on the bike as it makes it less enjoyable (and more fatiguing)*.

*Some people never ride with backpacks, for safety concerns. Personally, I prefer a pillion to wear one rather than me as having a bag between you can be v. uncomfy for both parties.

haha Hello again everyone.
i have survived and am home safe.
rob your panniers are fine. ill have to sort out getting them to you this week.

it went well nibbo came 7th and 11th in his GP1 races. had a few beers with him etc.

i love the touring feel and cant wait to go out somewhere new on the sv.

so yeah it went well im alive the bikes ok and so's my gf

in that order :P

cant wait for the rescue ride

woo, so how much you after for the bungs and tank bag. im skint untill the last thursday of the month. this weekend bankrupted me :)
