Well see my thread last week and you'll read it took my friend 3 attempts but he did it in the end. And still better than my mate Harvey - it took him 14 goes to pass his driving test! You'll breeze through it next time like a pro.

Having a week before you have another go will give you time to mentally digest everything you have done and learned today. In a weeks time you'll have no problem!!

Again, very true :-D

I forgot to mention one thing the instructor asked me halfway through the stuff in the carpark that made me smile. He asked what job I do, I said I was an ex-student, to which he replied "Ah I knew it! Because you're overthinking EVERYTHING". Made me chuckle, and he was very right, I was!

Don't get to downhearted, everybody has to start somewhere. A bit of time to reflect, get yourself back in the right frame of mind and go back and get the extra 4 hrs you have paid for and you'll be right as rain.

Remember :

Positive Mental Attitude
Look where you want the bike to go
Relax, remember this biking lark is supposed to be fun

As the others have said its hell of a lot to take in on the CBT. I was glad when I did mine that I could already ride and as I had been driving for years I had road experience. To expect to pick all that up as well as deal with the mechnics of riding if you are not familiar with it can be a big ask, especially if you are not on top form after a rubbish nights sleep.

Yup, just like the adverts :-D

And Fizz, cheers. In some ways I think it helps to have learnt to ride a push bike so recently, as the whole look where you need to go thing seems to be freshly imprinted so I picked it up again easily enough on the motorbike. When I went to take it 2 years ago with no experience of 2 wheelers at all I was looking at the floor a lot, not good!

Maria, from your OP it doesn't sound to me like you didn't get your CBT as in you failed it....it just sounds like you have to get it in two days as opposed to one day and I think that's pretty common. I got lucky because I had one-to-one training for mine. I was on the bike by 10am learning how to ride it on the tarmac course at the centre, then lunch at 12.30, another haf hour on the tarmac and then the two hour road ride to complete so it sounds to me like you had half the bike time I did and if I'd have gone on the road after half the bike time, I would have been a complete mess. So...I honestly wouldn't feel anything other than proud of yourself today. It's a hell of a lot to take in and to get a compliment on your balance when you've not even been riding bikes long is massive chick. I've always had bike and have ridden horses (bareback only for two years) so I can't imagine what I'd have been like if I didn't have that balance already.

Also, I totally agree about more training time being a good thing. Technically, I could go out and do my Mod 2 and be legally on the road, but I am having two extra days training as I want to have the extra confidence and time with an instructor before I am out on my own.

Oh yeah...when you go back....BREATHE and sit up to take the weight off your hands. Let the bike do teh work for you is what my instructors kept saying to me and it really works but it's easy to forget when you are getting such an information overload.

Big hugs xxx

Re: Well...

Another thing my instructor said yesterday before my Mod 1...just after I had completely messed up all of my slow control practise was this...

"being good at passing tests does not a good rider make and failing tests does not a bad rider make"

He was basically saying, don't worry if you fail. They've had people breeze through, only to go out after passing and get in nasty accidents because they've been too cocky, when on the flip side, many people that are superb riders clam up, get nervous and forget to breathe, failing time after time, when they are perfectly safe to be on the roads and that, IMO is where the new style tests fail some people.
