Right then, thanks for all the posts peeps!
I have bought my normal stuff today and I am going to attempt to dye it MYSELF this evening (I usually have someone to help!). I think, after my placement I will be trying out this Schwarzkopf XXL, I've always loved purple hair so might have to have a play with it! :-D Wish me luck tonight, it may all go quite wrong! Quote:

Only just seen this thread and not really had the time to read through it all yet, so apologies if I repeat anything that anyone else has said.
Red - Fades quicker than any other colour but will stick like sh*t to a blanket once in. I can obtain permanent products like the black I put in my hair and as I am a qualified hairdresser I am able to purchase the professional products. I LOVE the Affinage range which leaves your hair very, very, very shiny and you can use the chilli red semi permanent to top it up. Also if you get sick of it (like I did recently with the black) there is colour eraser which is BRILLIANT and very effective in removing all but your natural colour. Once the colour is in, there are other influences, chemicals in the pool which make blondes go green will be opposite on the colour wheel to red and therefore will make you more brunette. The sun will fade the colour faster than a queue disappears into Harrods on Sale day so you need something to protect that. There are a number of professional products you can buy that will have a SPF in them and help prevent fading. I LOVE the Paul Michell 'The conditioner' which you leave in and then you cover it with 'super clean gel' which will protect your hair. Using a colour protective shampoo is a must if you are red and going in the sun. If you need me to buy you any of the above products let me know. It also depends on how red you want to go. Jen x |

Cheers Jen, really useful advice there :) Interesting that chlorine would make red more brunette!
I've just bought a little bottle of tresemme shampoo, supposed to have the uv filter thing in and general colour protector so hopefully I'll take to that better than Dove! |

Are you sure red fades more than anything? I had some bright fire engine red stuff and it lasted pretty much until it grew out. On the other hand I had some nice royal blue stuff and it started going green, turqoise, and even back to the bleached blonde in almost no time at all (after only a few showers too, I was standing in a pool of blue water, like being in a chemical toilet!). In the end I had to buy black permanent stuff to just go back to near-as-dammit normal.
Anyway, if you're getting it done, make sure you do your downstairs with it too :p |
